One of the big differences claimed at the time was that the aero kits on the 'British' cars which had been designed for UK circuits didn't suit Ricard- those on the BMWs and Audi were much better suited to the European tracks they'd been designed for- the BMW kit certainly didn't seem to work in Britain, which suggests there was a measure of truth in this.....

Yes, and as Winkelhock said in 1996 that during the previous years (95, 94 etc) BMW build cars for all of Europe. That made them suit the fast tracks outside the UK better, such as Paul-Richard.
