Could you not ditch the (heavy) track rod ends with their tapers and switch to a plain bolt through a rod end? Probably get a better joint at lower weight, and lower cost by the time you've sorted the taper reaming.

Course, I dont know *why* you're asking, so there may be very good reason to stick with the ball joint.
