I believe that will be down to the Goodwood organisation wanting to keep the general public entertained at all times, getting their monies worth and lusting to return next year for more! Hence the air displays, track demonstrations and other distractions that go on between the races filling the programme.

You have 3 days to do all the socialising you could possibly want!!!! Do you really need to hold hands for the 15 minutes before the cars go out? A hot engine fire/hot steam leak/oil leak isn't going to distinguish whether it's a normal race meeting or a social event.

At least if the numbers are reduced in that ONE area, then anything can be dealt with efficiently and without having people not versed in motorsport standing in the way and causing delays. Even when the command to start engines had been given, they think they have the right to walk anywhere, including standing in the path of the cars!!!!! And if anything was to happen, you can guarantee it will be us marshals who would be blamed for the situation, not the person who wasn't actually contributing to the event.

So where do we go with this one? Wait for something serious to happen and then have H&S invade us even more, or look inside ourselves for a solution? I favour the second approach, after all we are all adults.

Quite correct, because Stirling is a patron of the whole event!!!! You don't see an armband on Lord March either - I wonder why!!!!!!!!

PS This is not a rant, but is a point that all of us need to consider for the safe running of the event for its future.
