I think that the truth is that the Goodwood Revival is a motor racing event for some of the competitors and some of the spectators. For the rest (and I include most of the American millionaires who drive their cars once a year) it is the experience of being at a brilliant retro theme park for a whole weekend.
I spoke to Ashley-Brown (who drove my Volpini in the Chichester Cup). He said that one Italian driver in an Apache overtook about five people on the green flag lap and then overtook him under the safety car on the entry to the chicane!
