Track safety: That is such a warning shot (real event trigger warning)

https://www.autosport.com/wec/news/f...rash/10456352/

At Portimao (of all places) during a support series event on the WEC weekend, a Porsche crashed and jumped over the carch fencing into the empty grandstand behind.

Even though tis is largely a fantasy track design board, I post this here because it seems fitting as the only place on tentenths dedicated to racetracks exclusively.

So let's talk about improving track safety here.

Looking at the 2nd picture in the article, it seems like putting the fence directly behind the guardrail behind the tyre barrier could have prevented the car from moving over it into the grandstand - if the tyre barrier acted as some sort of a ramp.

What do you think?

The distance between the guardrail and the tyre barrier also played a role in the difficult on site recovery at Silverstone in F1 when Guanyu Zhou's car got stuck in between both of those elements.

The positioning of the fence in the photo from Portimao makes it look like it may be only there to prevent spectators from getting into the lane behind the barrier that is built for track marshal vehicles to travel on.
