Is the 908 the best car ever? I don't think any car can be labeled best car ever, there have been lots of cars that have dominated sports car racing in their time..
Is the 908 the best ever car build to the LMP1 regulations? Of course..
The car is four years old now and has not been upgraded much since 2008, the aero has remained largely unchanged from the base design that dates back to 2006.
And still, Audi hasn't managed to build a car that can match the 908 in terms of speed. During the course of the 908's run, Audi has build 1 1/2 new cars, they´ve thrown everything they have at it...replaced drivers etc.
And still, the 908 remains unbeatable when it comes to pace. You´re right, it's competition history is weakened by Peugeot's inability to get results..especially in 2008 when they had the speed over Audi and failed to win Le Mans, the PLM and another LMS championship.
Still, mistakes made on the pit wall don't take anything away from the car's performance which is still unmatched almost four years after it's debut.
