I think this is why someone at Caterham proposed last year to extend the points down to lower positions. The last year the situation was quite similar, with Caterham on average beating Marussia, but Marussia staying ahead until the final race in rankings because of one lucky race early in the season. Back in 2012 Caterham did manage to take the 10th WCC position in the final race.
