A1 - Ring to return to its former glory in 2005?
Just found this link which is interesting,
http://www.racingcircuits.net/Austri...5Proposal.html Here it shows a new revised track layout due 2005. From what I can gather, they are using some of the old circuit. |

Just longer. Misses out all the good bits
And it looks like it might be abandoning the best thing about the new version. From some vantage points you could see 90% of the cirucit. |

Well, in either case, it should be better than the current circuit. The current one is pants.

Hardly the (very) fast version of the past, which stands comparison to any of the great circuits, but the current version (with its slow corners) did produce some good racing.

I guess I'm just a purist, who thinks former great circuits should not be diluted to a slow form.

That I agree with. I just had more realistic hat on. don't worry I have now discarded it as if it was a beret.

Who "proposed" the version anyway. Not the old layout was the reason to drop it from the calendar; who would actually pay for those changes, assuming that it's for real?

I really like the current A1-Ring layout. The original was a classic, but sadly lost forever. The new track didn't replace the old one as an F1 track as such, unlike the Hockenheim monstrosity.
The new track is great for spectators because of the excellent always provides action. It's also tempting to suspect that it was removed because it was one track Mcihael had a record of poor results at. |

As it is quite likely he will ever race on it again I doubt that.

I don't think that adds a thing to the layout.

It just looks like the current config with more Tilkefests added to the Westschleife.

What is the point? It still has heaps of slow corners, doesn't have as good viewing as the present layout and becuase it is longer the spectators will see the cars less often! Oh yes, F1 is for TV not for live spectators. Maybe that is why viewing audiences are falling. the racing is Un-Real... as in boringly predictable and uninteresting.

It looks like they are using the super fast right hander in the top right of the map.

I think you're watching the wrong series then. Nobody's RACED in F1 for years, they just try to drive faster than the other cars

That one does appear to be exactly as the old version. Which should be applauded! |
