V8 Supercar to Singapore?
According to Autosport.com, it seems that the governing body of motorsport in Singapore has showcased plans and designs to establish an FIA-approved international-spec street circuit in Marina South area of Singapore, with a view to holding significant motorsport events in this location.
Given V8Supercar's relative immediate proximity to Singapore, the question has to be asked as to whether the expansion of the calendar in future years may see a logical progression to circuits of this nature. That the government seems committed to the project as well must be like a manna from heaven from TC and his band of merry AVESCO-ites.... Opportnity may be knocking boys and gals... |

Either that or send all the V8 Supercars overseas and have some real racing back home; NC and GTP sound good with a strong F3 program as well.

That's all the sport in this country need's, to have our premier category have even more races off shore. If this were to happen i think TC along with the two manufaturer's would find that they'd be killing the goose that layed the golden egg & support for the series in Australia would drop considerably.

In an AutoRacing1.com exclusive from our sources in Seoul, South Korea, we have learned that CART's first race in Seoul, South Korea will be in the Nanji District in Hangang Park on Oct. 15 to 17 in 2004. The race will be the weekend prior to CART's race in Surfers Paradise on October 22 to 24 in 2004 so transportation costs can be partially shared between the two events.
We have been following this story for months now and expected an announcement. That announcement came today in Seoul by the City of Seoul. The race will be promoted by KMC (Korea Motorsports Center). Contracts are for five years, through 2008, and the race circuit will be on a temporary street course built in the park. We expect an announcement from CART this week, possibly Thursday from Surfers. |

I dont think freight will be the problem, the more than capable people at Gibson Freight seem to be able to move F1, CART, MotoGP and anything else that comes here from overseas with a minimum of hassle and stress.

Singapore racing group seeks street race The Singapore Motor Sports Association (SMSA) is hoping to close off a number of public roads and use them to form a street circuit for racing. SMSA president William Lyou says the organization has had informal talks with the Singapore Land Authority on the possibility of using roads in the Marina South area. Such a circuit could easily be brought up to the standards required by the International Automobile Federation for international races to be held here. The roads would have to be widened in areas, slanting kerbs would have to replace car-killing vertical ones, lamp posts must be moved further from the tarmac, and a pit and paddock area would have to be created. While all this sounds like extensive work, the SMSA estimates that it could be done for $3 million, a bargain amount for a racetrack.
In comparison, Malaysia's Sepang International Circuit cost US$100 million. While Sepang hosts the Malaysian round of the Formula One World Championships, the SMSA has no such aspirations for the proposed Marina South circuit. 'If anyone is dreaming about bringing F1 to Singapore, they can carry on dreaming,' says Mr Lyou. Instead, a Marina South track could host smaller events from around Asia, such as the Japan GT Championship, the Asian Formula BMW championship or the Asian Touring Car series. These might not be world-class events, but would establish Singapore on the international racing scene. 'That is something we dare to dream about, and it's achievable,' says Mr Lyou. $3 Million seem a bit cheap, especially if Manfield gets a $17 Mill upgrade. |

If Tony is already thinking this he's bloody crazy! We haven't even been to China yet, so there's no guarantee that will work. Why start planning another overseas destination without proof that you'll have the demand?
