Pork Pies??

I am new to marshalling. On post at Thruxton for the BTCC there was a lot about pork pies going on, I asked and got told it was a car magnet thing, I thought that perhaps this was just somthing to do with that crew but i get the impression it is universal, Where does it all come from. and now i am hungry.
anyone marshalling with me at brands, i got a bumper pack of 12 sorry

I think you'll find that ALL pork pies, no matter what brand or where you purchased them, have magnetic properties. Every time a marshal, no matter where they are or what they are doing, eats a pork pie, something will go horribly wrong!

I tried an experiment when I spectating at a bike meeting at Donington last year. I wandered round the circuit, clutching pork pie in hand. Nothing happened. I stopped at Coppice to watch the bikes come round on their practice laps. Stuffed half of said pork pie into gob, Yay!!! Three bikes come round Coppice in a lump, bike number 1 gets it all wrong, bike number 2 hits bike number 1, bike number 3 rides over the top of rider of bike number 2. Red Flags!

Doesn't matter where you are or what you are doing. You eat a pork pie and the red flags will come out.

No, no, it's not what you eat, it's the fact THAT you eat. For some reason marhsals are not supposed to eat, it being a pie in the UK, a Burger in the US, a roll in Holland, or drinking tea or coffee in either country, whatever you do taking a minute for yourself, the boys out there are not going to let it happen. (Not even having a smoke seems to be permitted - check parc fermé - it's going to be 4 weeks this weekend since I gave up.)

In addition to Shiela's spectating experiment, there's also the "delayed pork pie" effect which I think is unique to Thruxton. Marshall eats a pork pie in between races. Nothing happens during the next race, BUT, the race after we get two GT's in the tyre wall with the contact that causes it happening at exactly the spot said pie was eaten!

WARNING!

Don't eat Melton Pies on the startline before a race. I can testify to that. Snet last year BTCC Race 1.

And which of the pit marshals had eaten their pork pie just before the Escort hit the tyre barrier at the entrance at Mallory this afternoon? Wasn't me - I ate mine during practice! Unless the Tesco's Meltons are delayed action ones of course

Oulton Park has a Pie Factory about ten miles away!
The smell of them cooking can sometimes waft over towards the track and cause utter mayhem!!

having never marshalled S Stone, no idea even where 6 is, will have a ready supply of pepperami instead of pies though, was my first major incident yesterday, an experience that i don't wish to happen often.

It could have something to do with the crowd of reprobates that you hang out with.
