Prodrive to tune the Volvos
BTCC --- January 18, 2001

Prodrive has teamed with Volvo and will develop the Volvo cars that will make it's debute 2002 in the ETCC. If Volvo and Prodrive finds the car compettetive, we might see Rydell and a Volvo in the last few races in the BTCC according to Volvo. But that depends on if the new BTCC rules will be used in the ETCC. Volvo has not yet confirmed what model the will use, but it looks most likely that Volvo will use the new S60. Rumours indicated earlier that Prodrive would tune Opel's in the DTM. But since the new deal with Volvo this seems most unlikely, but officials from Prodrive says that they have had discussions with Opel and that they will continue.

WHAT??? What happened to TWR? The decision must have been Fords?? Why did Volvo split from TWR? Surely, TWR has worked long enough with Volvo that they have a distinct advantage no matter which car and engine Volvo uses to race??

I'd say it is because of Ford's contract with Prodrive.

I have to agree with Mr.kmchow, TWR should have been the obvious team-reunited them, Volvo and Rick would have been fab!

I'm sure they'll be fab without TWR though; in a recent interview Rickard said that he thought Prodrive was an excellant team and he'd like to continue working with them. I'd probably rather TWR had the job because they had such a good system going and Rickard knows all the people but as long as Prodrive can recreate the glory days I don't care...
GO RICKARD!!!

Im sorry but am i the only one to feel a bit cheesed off about this whole Volvo thing. They say we "might" do a few of the last few races, like we should be grateful or something. If they can't do a whole program then i say they can stick their few races up their a*se.

I hope they do do the last few races, because my viewon the Volvo is the same as ive already posted on MG. With plenty of testing, Volvo could make the last few races of the BTCC and be competitive straight away as Pug, Vauxhall etc. will not have been allowed to test. The same applies for MG. Expect plenty of different race winners in 2001!

We so should be grateful Sodemo! For Volvo fans it has been such a long time that they didn't race and it wasn't the same seeing Rickard Rydell in a Ford!!! I too will be "very happy" (Tarquini!) to see them back, and the sooner the better.

But whats the point in only doing a handful of races?, im all for more manufacturers, but it just seems pointless, why bother teasing all the fans if they just plan to bog off at the end of the season and not be seen over here (for the time being at least).

Exactly Larsen. But remember, this is only if the ETCC decides to use the new BTC rules to the 2002 series.

Apparently its a but a forgone conclusion that the ETC adopts the new BTCC regs for 2002. Ive heard the deal has already been done.
