Where to stay in Barcelona for the Spanish GP 2001??

I am going to the Spanish GP in 2001 and I have never been to Barcelona let alone Spain. Can anyone tell me of a good hotel to stay at in Barcelona and what area to stay in. I will be taking the train to the the circuit on the Sunday so being near the station where ever that is would be good. thanks

One of the best things about Barca is that it has an excellent Metro system so everywhere is pretty much accessible, But saying that I would suggest that you look for a hotel around the Ramblas / Place de Catalunya area.

There is a mainline railway station under Place de C so you might manage a train direct from there, but if not it's only a couple of stations on the Metro to the major railway station.You can also usually get some good details on combined rail / metro tickets

We stayed at the Hotel Lleo (just off Place de C) earlier this year when we merged a few days there into our visit to the Rally. It's about £40 / night B&B sharing, and the rooms, facilities are good. The hotel has a website with online booking facility (?? http://www.hotel-lleo.es ??). I'm sure there are other hotels around cheaper / more expensive if you're looking for different price ranges.

Make sure you leave some time for visiting the sights in the city (it's definitely worthwhile) & also be aware that the nights out in Barcelona start about 11pm and go on to 5am & onward, so the ability to nap / split your sleep patterns helps.
