Ok, I love the car, but for a few things that might make it impossible for me to buy one. First, you can't get one with cloth seats and a sunroof. If you want a sunroof, you get to pay for leather seats (ick). Also, the car is quite tiny inside. Not enough head room for me with the seat all the way down. Granted, without a sunroof, it might work. Then I could go with cloth seats (yay). However, I've never owned a car without a sunroof, and I don't know if the RX-8 is cool enough to get me to give up the sunroof (haven't driven one yet). Thus ends my sunroof rant.

I really cannot understand why people buy a nice car and then go cut a hole in the roof. Perhaps it's climatic....

I'm a bit confused by the RX8, I'm really not sure what it is trying to be.

A practical sports car
people said its not at fast as the rx7 but keep in mind the people who said this never bought one and thats why the rx7 never sold well but this car is much more practical, even though not the best on petrol is much better than before
So now its selling pretty well as i have seen heaps of them in sydney

Actually David, the whole was already in the roof when I bought them. And it has a retractible plug. I can't speak for anyone else, but I like it because I like the sun. If it didn't get down to freezing temperatures in the winter here, I'd get a convertible. Now people who buy convertibles and never put the top down, that's confusing.

Mazda wont give ya an rx8 with a turbo but there is a workshop in sydney called MAZFIX who have an RX8 with a t28 Garret pumpin 440kw at the flywheel.
But that isnt cheap.

It looks awesome!

But I'm not a big fan of coupés that are all form and no function. I'm not saying the RX8 won't be a good drive (I'm sure it will), I just don't like the poseur hairdresser end of the market. Time will tell how the RX8 will slot in.

So the RX8 is good, I just wouldn't buy one cos I don't like that type of car - I'd be more likely to buy a proper performance version of the Mazda6...

Yeh thats the big question is the rx8 practical. Just have to wait and found out, know some people who have bought one and they think its great in all aspects other than that it takes as much fuel as a V8.

Err, I'm not sure? I liked the concept, but they tweaked some parts of the styling, which made it look awkward. As for it's insides, it seems to be sporty enough. Anything with a rotary is good.

thoughts...hmmm...
seems to be visualy related to the RX-7 of yesteryear (good thing)
not really intended to be a track car or even be made into a track car (bad)
exhaust headers are contained in the center housing, and the exhaust runs through an engine mount making things tough o modify (bad)
they don't sell a 2 door version with those saturn openings welded shut (bad)
no turbo (bad)
awesome looking (good)
rotary (good)
rotary that could theoretically go in a new miata (very good)
side ports (good)

i'd buy one but its not a sports car like the original. lets see a rotary miata, or a real two door two seat version to carry oin the real sportscar heritage of the RX-7

avsfan, you'll just have to wait for the new RX-7. The RX-8 is stiffer than the Gen3 RX-7 too.

The ricers out in SoCal have been complaining vociferously about the lack of advertized horsepower on the Mazda owner sites. Mazda has released a tech bulletin letting owners know that the engine requires at least 10,000 miles to completely break in and lower horsepower numbers are to be expected until then. Some of the owners had their engines dynoed at 180hp, 70 hp short of the advertised 250.

I have yet to see one, but if it about the size of an RX7 then 6 footer need not apply unless you like to stare into the sun visor and a-pillar while looking straight ahead. Same went for the last generation 300Z.

This is true. The car is a bit small inside. I'm 6'3" and I found it a bit too tight.

By da way
when you have a power rating at the flywheel, your expected to get a power less to the wheels
