Off road go kart

Hi

Not sure where to post this

I am at lackham college, doing motorsport, the college have give us the option off making a off road kart.

I was wondering if anybody had any websites or plans i could look at, so i can get an idea of what to do.

Also we have no money for any of this, does anybody know where we can get some parts, for example which people dont want, a website which i can advertise on, i bet there are loads of people who through things away that would be useful for us

Any ideas useful

Thanks
James

A cheap way out would be a small mot failure car and cut it down to suit , something like an old Panda 4x4.

Is it 'off road' as in 4x4/Land Rover type terrain or 'off road' as in 'grass'? The requirements would be quite different! I used to work at a grass go kart track and they were great fun - grippy knobbly tyres on the front and grooved slicks on the back plenty of opposite lock action (the knobblies would just tear up the grass if we used them on the drive wheels, fitting the grooved tyres had the added bonus of huge amounts of oversteer as well as saving the grass)

Sorry to say I can't remember the name of the company that made the karts - they were a lot more substantial than a tarmac kart, full roll hoop with rear supports, bucket seats, 4 point harness, wrist restraints on the steering wheel etc etc. Good fun

Taking it to the extreme have a look Rage buggies : http://www.rageoffroadbuggies.com/

Dont Haynes publish that 'How to build an off-road buggy for £100' book?
I have the 'Sportscar for £250 - and race it!' and it's quite detailed.
Maybe get it out from the Library to get a good gist of what you need, whereabouts would be good places to go scavenging etc..

Amazonian Listing

The front-cover image looks a lot like how I'd imagine an off-road kart would look like so might be of some use.
