I was racing up at Ellough today when on lap 2 or 3 of the first heat in the dry my kart wouldn't stop accelerating. It was at the final hairpin before the chicane, as i came off the throttle, the pedal and cable came back but the engine it's self proppelled me off at (for me at least) a terrifying speed. I took to the infield to avoid hitting two karts further infront and flipping, as i rejoined the track at the apex i just missed the kart at the front going round the hairpin before shooting over the track in to the wall sideways and climbing the embankment. Bending the steerting wheel, destroying the side pod and bar but thankfully that was all, very surprising for the speed.
We checked it over and had to have the kart re-scrutinized started it up in the pits, the thing instantly revd right up to about 12 thousand without even pulling the throttle pedal or cable, the cable wasn't sticking. We adjusted the power valve, stripped the carb, before losening the cable a little just so it was slightly more slack and that seemed to do the trick. Went out for the Final, and on about lap 11 i thought it started to stick once or twice, then the 3rd time it stuck very badly on the corner before the hairping and almost threw me off, so i thought enough is enough and switched the engine off and coasted in the pits.
We're totally baffled about whats gone on, we're going to strip the wiring down and replace that but otherwise, what do you think is happening?
The accident shook my confidence pretty bad as it was far from a 'comfortable speed' about 60mph and still accelrating right up to point of impact, thing is we'll only know if the problem is sorted by driving the kart, which im a tad reluctant to. Any one who has had this problem or have any ideas how else it may have been caused i'd be greatful to hear
