The SpeCTator should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Brands meeting - Sunday 27th December 2009

Sorry was just dreaming - but it would be good.

Assuming there was no track work, reckon there would be enough interest from drivers, marshals and spectators.

Beats going to the sales

I knew exactly who and what this would be before I opened it!!

It wont happen but I fail to see why, MSVR (if they did it) have fewer costs to run a race meeting and the boxing day meeting at Mallory seems to attract a fairly good crowd...

But I almost forgot, they will be busy putting the new fencing up for DTM next year...

Why does DTM need new fencing?
Seriously I can't remember why this meeting died out.I went many times 1955-80s.1964 was rescheduled to end of january due to weather and was so sucessful it sparked a regular winter series of clubbies.

It should be more than just a traditional clubby though. Make it a Rallysprint.

Use parts of the circuit, parts of the perimeter roads, etc, etc. 4 or 5 stages. Use Rallyschool Pugs for "celebrity" drivers (c`mon - should at LEAST be able to get JP and JP Jnr!!). Bring in the type of local car clubs that used to successfully organise the Rally of Kent to help run it with MSVR. What you would lose in entry fees (I dare say that you could only get around 30-40 cars) you would gain on gate receipts and hot food/drink sales. There would be plenty of speccies either wanting a bit of winter motorsport, or wanting to get away from the family/shops.

I`m extremely sursprised that the people (MSV) that are touted by many as being as forward thinking, ingenuitive, willing-to-give-anything-a-try, blah-de-blah, haven`t tried something like this already.

Well this was aimed at Westfield Bend and a bit of a wind up because it would be too short a notice for this year!
However on a more serious note for 2010 I really think there is an opportunity for MSV
A key way to attract crowds in is to invite car clubs and over Xmas is a classic opportunity, last year I went a Piston Heads meeting between Xmas and New Year and there where hundreds of cars and even more people all trying to buy food in a huge pub. Many people were turned away as they had not booked!
Goodwood breakfast club specialises in just this and again huge crowds attend.
The closed season is a good opportunity in the car club community, they have the cars and are desperate for somewhere to rendevouz, a race meeting would be ideal.
Of course the weather can play a part but history shows that the weather is not normally a problem.

So if the Mallory Meeting is the Plum Pudding, what would this one be?

Turkey & Sprout Curry?

Many of us have our car in a zillion bits at this time of year, but it might be nice for a bit of fun.

They need to have a few "pots" to win, and the right classes to attract people to watch, as well as compete.

For the track you just have to run a couple of saloon races - Open Saloons, Production(ish) Saloons, a good 'larger' single seater race (Formula Libre), something for the Caterhams, and in keeping with tradition - a FFraud race.

No qualifying, just three-four laps of "practice", grids by a draw, with prizes for the punters who pick the first three on the grid for each race.

And a couple of Rallycross rounds too - one for pure rallycross cars, the other more of a Rallysprint - for true rally cars (with MSA logbooks to prove it!).

And the telly there with some totty to do the grid/paddock walkabout!

That be the ticket.

Rob.

I can just about imagine the reaction I would get from she who must be obeyed if I announced that I "had a complete week-end's marshalling arranged at the end of December". It wouldn't be pretty!
