skygod should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I recently had the pleasure of meeting a very nice Swedish guy (Hans Sjostedt) who happened to mention that in the 1960s he had been involved in F2 / F3 motor racing.

I would like to try and gather information on the cars he drove and if they are still around today.

According to formula2.net, in the XVII Kanonloppet / VIII Sveriges Grand Prix 1968 he is attributed to driving a Brabham BT 18.

Any information would be most welcome.

Thanks

Winkelmann Racing Brabham BT 18 Jochen Rindt

While trawling the web, I came across references to the BT 18 I raced in the early 70s. I bought the car as a rolling chassis from Bob Howlings in Manchester and had a Cosworth MAE fitted. I raced it 27 times in sprints, hillclimbs and circuits in the UK. Later I teamed up with Paul Brindley (both RAF at the time) and there are erroneous mentions of the Brabham being owned and raced by Paul. It was owned and raced by me - John Walmsley.

The car was originally green and with Winkelmann stickers but Paul and I painted our cars red, white and blue and called ourselves Roundel Racing (a pun on Rondel racing). Paul's car was an Alexis. In 1972 I had a Vegantune 1600 (Formula B) engine fitted and the car became an absolute gem to race and maintain.

I have some photos from the time if of any use to anyone.

Wayne,

It would help a lot if you advised what country you are in to start , and more exact time frames and from whom your grandfather purchased the car in the late 1960's.

Is your grandfather David Santer who raced a blue and orange Brabham BT18 in libre racing in 1969 and 1970?

If so, then its previous owners are known. Email me at allen@oldracingcars.com and I'll see what I can do to help.

Any one know the current location of F2-30-66, bought new by Mike Walker from Rodney Bloor at Sports Motors in '66 and traded via Frank Williams for BT21-29 which was run in Frank Manning colours. Mike was asking when at Cadwell this weekend for the Justin Haler Trophy for One Litre F3 cars.

F2-28-66

An update for those following these things:

I've sold BT-18 #F2-28-66 to some friends of Picko & Reine and the car is now back in Sweden where it will be displayed (when not racing) in the car museum in Reine's hometown of Motala. His trophy collection has been there for some time & all are happy to see the car show up. It was sold minus motor & gearbox to be converted back to F3 from FB.

Cheers!

Mike - although I'll probably see you this weekend at Croft, I'll ask the question anyway.... whereabouts of F2-32-66? Is this a mystery car? If so I might just have a possible answer.

I have been racing BT 18 F2-32-66 for the past 4 years having purchased it from Mark Gillies. The car has been in the US for at least 30 years, possibly since new, and has log books going back to 1993. /It was initially apparently run as a Formula C in the US with an MAE engine and then converted to a Formula B with a Hart 416-B engine which is presently in the car. I last ran it at the Hawk (Road America) 3 weeks ago.

Several BT18s were sold new to the US via Fred Opert. Do you know any owners or drivers before Mark Gillies? Anything that might allow us to trace it back?

The prior owners Mark knew about were Carl Moore (back to at least 2001), preceded by Nick Colyvas, and then by Pierre Phillips. A second log book goes back to 1993 and all of the races in that log are in California or Las Vegas and run under VARA. I cannot read the names I have nothing prior to that.
