renaultbel should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid

British GP could go ahead without spectators.

It's been revealed that despite the current foot-and-mouth crisis, the British GP could still go ahead without spectators.

Following on from our previous article, in which we warned that both the Goodwood Festival of Speed and the British GP could be cancelled, it's understood that round eleven of the FIA Formula One World Championship would still go ahead despite the crisis.

In the latest edition of Bernie Ecclestone's F1 magazine and if anyone should know, it's Bernie it's reported that the race could still be held if only in front of marshals and the press.

Currently thirteen of the circuit's fourteen entrances are sealed off although many of these are closed off throughout the year anyway with only the circuit's main gate kept open. Since it would be impossible to shepherd everyone attending through that one entrance, race organisers would be forced to bar spectators.

"We are paid a fixed fee to arrange anything that goes on inside the Armco," says the managing director of the Motor Sports Association's commercial division Jonathan Ashman in F1. "It would make no difference to the MSA and I doubt whether we would be consulted in that decision."

However, although this would be dreadful news for race fans, particularly in light of last year's debacle, there is great news for Politicians, topless models, soap opera stars, d-list celebrities and mobile phone salesmen.

For although `ordinary' race fans would be unable to gain access to the track, and thereby the race, hospitality guests who fly in to the circuit wouldn't have any problems.

The article in F1 continues: `There is a possibility that corporate hospitality guests would be admitted as the main gates would probably be able to handle that volume of people and traffic, much of which comes in by helicopter.

The article continues: `The MSA which is responsible for organising the sporting side of the event, said it would be perfectly happy to organise the race on the basis that there would be no spectators and doubted it would make any difference to the enjoyment of the race on television.

So there you have it, once again race fans would miss out, while Formula One shows its true colours.

Last year the corporate mob were seriously affected by heavy fog that meant their helicopters couldn't fly in to the circuit, this year it is the smoke from the pyres dotting the countryside that pose the problem.

How ironic that while race fans are forced to stay at home and watch the event on TV, hospitality guests will be sitting trackside quaffing the bubbly and eating pork, lamb and beef.

Pretty disgusting but I couldn't have gone to see the race anyways so I'll be happy if it goes on and am able to see it on TV. I'd be damn ****ed off if I was planning on going though! Damn celebrities!
