Speed Machines
The next episode of speed machine on channel 4 (Uk Only)will be shown next Monday 3 nov and will be about the Bentley/mercedes battles, should be worth watching.

Thanks for the tip this has been a brilliantly produced series with wonderful unseen archieve footage - This might just be the best yet. An hours TV worth recording.

Just finished. A really interesting program and loads of stuff about Le Mans in the 1920's and 1930's, wonderful stuff......

Good footage for sure, although I think the premise was a bit strained. They had to really struggle to get the connection with the Silver Arrows I thought.
But the archive material was good though, and worth the taping just for the Brooklands material, a lot of which I hadn't seen before. Nice to see interviews with Tony Hutchings, Bill Boddy and Diana Barnato too. |

Yeah, good fun!
Almost would have been better as two separate programs. The link between Mercedes and Bentley was not really worth it. Although, of course, the entire series concentrates on rivalries to a certain extent. Agree with all the comments, the link between the 2 companys in racing terms was streched.
seeing the brooklands footage of the different size cars was great. BTW next weeks program will be on the land speed records. |

Excellent programme to watch though. I didn't know it was on and just happened to see it while nipper was channel hopping - lucky I guess. Got a tape in for it too

I agree with everyone's comments the link was a bit tenuous and two programmes would have been better - one on Le Mans as "Bentley vs the rest" and the other on Mercedes vs Auto Union. Maybe a third about Brooklands.
But let's just be thankful for the pictures and hope the programme triggered an interest in the history of the sport in some casual viewers. |
