Received via Webmaster from Paul-Emile Decamps in Morocco

'The Brabham BT 28 chassis n° 1 is still existing in my garage at Casablanca,
Morocco. I bought it from Jacky Berenger in the late 70s. The car is complete - chassis, engine, gearbox, but I lost the nose and the bodywork,

SERGE - I knew your Dad who was as passioned as quick in driving

ANDREW - I can make some picture of the car without body if you are interested. "she" is fitted with tyres G50 Avon, as the original Firestones are dead, and mk6 Hewland gearbox and guillotine (sash??) carburettor

Congratulations to CHRIS TOWSEND for his report on chassis numbers in 2004
year'

I have edited it slightly. I have e-mailed Paule-Emile inviting him to register and join us.

G'day Andrew I can confirm that my late brother Greg Bowden bought BT28-20 from Low Cost Racing (is there any such thing) as a roller BT28/35. How the time gets away as we are talking about approx 30 years ago, but I think he brought it into the country in 77/78. He then sold it on to Denis Lupton. I have some photos that I must hunt up but I recollect the car being painted an orangey red colour and that it did not appear to have too many coats of paint on it. If & when I can find these photos I will pass them onto Denis.

Greg had a life long interest in motor racing & when he purchased the Brabham he was employed at Nicholson McLaren Engines building DFV's for McLaren. I still have an autographed photo Of Emerson Fittalpaldi which thanks Greg for all his help during his 74 Championship year.

I can also blame Greg for my interest in old racing cars, in particular proper Aussie specials with grey Holden engines in the front!

Regards Shane Bowden

Welcome Shane,

Always nice to get some 1st hand input and if you find those photos they will be a very welcome addition.

Andrew

p.s. I am still convinced that Dick Barker's 2nd car that was called a BT29/35 was BT28-2 and like his first one bought from Mike Stow. However he did lease a BT29 after Crystal Palace accident.

I have more on this car from vdvgrant.be where it currently being advertised:
This car was bought by Barry Goulden and first raced in a F2 race at Thruxton on 23 August 1970 finishing 11th.
At the end of the season it was bought by Vic Preston, exported to Kenya and raced in east Africa by his son Vic Preston Jr.
At this time it was converted to Formula Atlantic trim, initially without wings and with a twin cam engine then in 1971 with a BDA engine and wings.
This is the trim it is in currently.
The car was bought by its current owner in 1986 and brought to England where it underwent a complete restoration by Peter Denty Racing.
Since then it has raced, without wings, in the HSCC's Classic Racing Car championship where it was always a front runner and latterly, with wings and slicks, in the Derek Bell Trophy, the Jochen Rindt Trophy and the Euro F2 series.
The car has a recently refreshed Racing Fabrications Cosworth BDA engine and a Hewland FT200 gearboxrecently rebuilt by Mark Bailey Racing.
This car is in excellent and race ready condition.
This was brought to my attention by Robin Cooper, ex of Kenya.

We have Barry Goulden's car going to Sonny Eade. Anyone remember where that came from?

Eade's car described as ex Goulden AS 20 May 1971 p. 38 when 5th in a 7 horse race at Silverstone.
A succession of DNAs through the summer months but reappears Thruxton 19 Sept 71 retiring after five laps of a heat.
I had seen this advert for 28-42 and I don't think the history is as clear cut as it makes it. If my memory is right, and it's not in my Brabham notes for some reason, Eade advertises this car with the chassis number in Autosport late 71 or early 72

That looks a bit strange ,

Alan McCully and Alan Jones were team mates in AIRO , Australian International Racing Org. along with a 3rd person who I can't remember all in BT28 F3 cars , can't think of a reason why Jonesy would get it after McCully when Jones was driving other things like a BT35 F3 , then GRDs and Marchs etc.

BT28

Brian
The third person in AIRO was Brian McGuire, and the cars were prepared by Jim Hardman. I have some photos ,but have to learn to send to this website.
The team did mainly UK races, some European events and also the Temporada in South America. Jim has some good stories of the team.

Bryan

I think it's right. McCully gets his BT28 late 1969 [October] and runs all 1970. When Jones appears in a BT28 early 1971 AS 8.4.71 p.5 says it's ex McCully.
He runs 71 season in the BT28 then the AIRO drivers all get BT38Cs in 72 - eventually, because deliveries are late. Jonesy not in a GRD until late in 1972 when AIRO runs out of money.

MN 10.2.72 p.8 says Butler's BT28 is 'ex Jones'

BT28-4

Leif Bosson was testing this car, now back with a screamer, at Brands Hatch today ahead of the HSCC meeting on Sunday. It is appropriate that it is again owned by a Swede as Ulf Svensson was the first owner. [for reference see posts around 125)

Bt 28-33

Have just become the owner to BT28-33. The car was found in Sweden and has been stored in a garage for several years. The car is not complete but nothing is bent or disturbed. If anyone has more history about this car please let me know. The AM nr is AM 70/83. Also interested in parts for BT28.

Welcome Anders,

Good to know that the car is still around,

I have,
1970 Torsten Palm but I also have a note, Troberg?
1971 Ingvar Pettersen

I can't be sure about either though as I have reference as to where the information came from.
