Yes I too would like to know if ONE HD are showing Daytona again this year. They showed the 24 and the series either live or delayed last year and it would be great to see it happen again this year even if only for Daytona.

Wow! I have to admit, there was a time when I thought MotorsTV would be slowly dying when they stopped showing ALMS live etc.

But they´re really picking up steam recently, first Dubai live and now this...very nice!

No idea, but there have been fields close to 80 cars in the 90s and close to 70 in the DP era, I think.

When I first went in 2000 there were (IIRC) 83 cars that started, and something similar the following years. Stopped going in 2003 thanks to the introduction of the DP and haven't been back since, but it's re-entering my field of vision these days.

Post race tear downs for the impounded cars takes place there, as does inspection of confiscated cars and parts. They also do R&D on safety components, post crash inspections on some cars, etc. Also, the chassis's are inspected there, before they get certified for use.

Anyone else tired of the claim that the 50th Rolex 24 is the most anticipated race in US sports car history? More anticipated than the 2009 12 Hours of Sebring? 06 Sebring? 2001 Daytona? 1991 Daytona? 1970 or 71 Daytona and Sebring? 57 Sebring?

... This must be a big deal... :/

2001 Daytona for sure, 2009 Sebring was highly anticipated as well. 1998 Daytona was a pretty big deal in the lead-up as well. This is one of the most anticipated races for sure though and the crowd at the Roar (one of the biggest in a long time) shows that. Certainly not the most anticipated though, even in my short time following sportscar racing since 1995.

Agreed FCP, and that is my general contention. Not the most anticipated, but certainly in the top two most anticipated Grand-Am races of all time and perhaps the most significant if the GT class keeps its momentum and DP rebuilds its success amongst cottage industry builders.

Agreed. They should have taken more cues from the United Autosports scheme if they wanted to do something patriotic.

Having looked at the schedules, it seems Motors and Eurosport are both showing bits and peices of the, but the same ones! Theres a void in the middle of the night (UK time) that there is no coverage on either (teleshopping on Motors, Eurosport News on ES).

Beggars can't be chooser's i guess.

This article from Speed explains their coverage schedule. Part of it is going to be online only, so maybe you can pick that up if it overalaps with the gaps in the Motors coverage.

I'm not familiar with the teams (ALMS guy here), but apparently the #2 Starworks pulled out of the race because their sponsorship didn't materialize. So close to the race day too!

Shouldn't Daytona be a good chance to give away new informations regarding the American DTM series, which is supposed to start in 2013? Are there any news regarding that matter anyway?
