And also this: SPORTSCAR: 5 Questions With BMW’s Jens Marquardt
http://auto-racing.speedtv.com/artic...ens-marquardt/ JM: "What's been a clear message from the board of directors back in Munich is that whatever activities we have, it's really something that should be production car-based. So [the focus is] our works efforts in the DTM as well as the GT program is based on M3s or Z4s. That's the story we want to tell and was part of the reason why BMW decided to withdraw from Formula One." |

^From August, 2011.
That's enough time for their philosophy to have changed. Who knows, let's wait and see. |

I don't understand this constant dickering around by the ACO. Why should the teams bother developing and improving their cars if they're just going to be penalised for it by equalising them with everyone else?

Besides, what can the organizers do? Weight, restrictors and fueltank sizes? A racecar is quite a bit more than that. |

Anyway, I think that OAK Racing can make the step into LMP1. We say this like it's some big leap of faith, but don't forget that they were in LMP1 (and occasionally battling amongst Strakka and Rebellion) just last year. Even though Lotus seems to be almost always on the brink of financial collapse, Praga and Charouz will bring money and they had enough to develop a brand new LMP2 car, why not LMP1? Obviously if there is any big announcement regarding Nissan it probably won't be about LMP2... they've got plenty of Nismo gizmos out there already. Most likely it would be something along the lines of LMP1, whether that be the production of a new engine or the production and development of an LMP1 chassis. Of course, it could be about GTE, as well, but with the GT3-GTE merger coming up fairly soon, I doubt they'd spend time working on anything groundbreaking over in the GTE field now. Of course, BMW did... Regarding a possible BMW LMP1 effort, I can't see there ever being a brand-new BMW LMP1 chassis being built again. Maybe a new engine to power some privateer teams. Mainly what I'm thinking of is a GTE-based effort over the Z4 GTE. Perhaps rotate from DTM/Super GT to WEC GTE? I think they're perfectly fine where they are... but if there's an announcement, that's all I can think of. Honda easily has the money behind it to start up a much larger LMP1 program than they're running now. Finally, Mercedes. It seems as though the SLS AMG was a one-hit pony. It's simply not raced that much anymore. Plus, Mercedes didn't put their full effort into DTM this year, which makes me think they are saving up for an all-out attack on the LMP1. As far as Perrinn, I'd love to see that work out. But I would venture to guess it will be a GreenGT-like flop. Finally, a few more questions. Whatever happened to the Acura NSX GTE effort? Did that not work out? |

Seems to me, that there's no point unless you've got a Diesel programme!

No. The -20kg is from the BASE of 1245kg. It was -30kg after Spa. They have been given 10kg more weight now. So they're running at 1225kg instead of 1215kg, originally it was 1205kg.
