Allen 36-1 & 2 are in my garage,
No.2 was found by Leif Norberg in 88 in Manila, all there except engine. The gearbox he had to dig up out of the mud but its restored and back in the car. The steering column is as per the mods done for Hill shorter, and set under the front anti-roll bar. I think the dash is 100% as it was in 71. A very original bit of kit. the 3rd car No.9 I will p m you about later today. Regards Andrew |

oh & Fred Opert says he didn't have a BT36. Charlie Lucas rang him for me as 'Freddy' used to be the Titan importer.

Hello, Brabham owners, I added hires pics of a BT28 here : http://www.gurneyflap.com/historic.html
Unfortunately I didn't take pictures of the chassis number, all I can say is that they were taken in Dijon (France) last year. |

BT35-5 .
For sale at www.carclassic.com Stated to never have been entered in a race , two owners from new and only used by two French drivers for private use. I have the name of Jean Louis La Fosse against this car in my notes. Still fitted with Novamotor MAE 1000cc. Bryan. |

BT35-5 was offered for sale at the 2004 Bonhams Monaco auction by.."a private French collector...who has owned it for 18 years. The car has been used for track-days and local hillclimbs"
Assuming it's the same car - and photos suggest it is - it seems carclassic.com have ignored whatever pre-1986 history it might have had |

Autosport in early 71 F3 reports gave the following chassis nos for BT35s
1: Brendan McInerney, used later in season by Jorge Pinhol and then a rent-a-car by MRE in 1972 2: Colin Vandervell 3: Jean-Louis Lafosse, this car offered for sale but not sold at Brooks Goodwood, 1999 4: Chris O'Brien, retained 1972 until BT38 delivered 5: Bernard Lagier [team mate to Lafosse] to Jannick Auxmery in French F3 1972. So history completely ignored, as usual... |

Like Bryan, I have 35-5 as Lafosse's number
The 1999 Goodwood catalogue entry for BT35-3 does not mention Lafosse as the original owner (or anyone else for that matter). This car was deep purple and gold at the time of the sale; the 2004 Monaco and 2005 carclassic.com one is red No-one seems to claim that either of these cars was raced in period.... |

Shock and horror I have to delve all the way back to page 8 to retrieve this thread, can't have it die from lack of use.
Over on the other place , it appears as though one of the A.C.A. BT30's has surfaced in the museum , it will either be BT30-18 or BT30-19 , looks very original with correct rear wing and long tail engine cover. Bryan. |

Retro Wheels
It is great to see such a load of knowledge re brabhams.. I helped out Rob Turnbull with his BT35 BDA on hillclimbs when I was young, we came 10th in a 1600cc car .. no idea what chassis number that was ..
Anyway I make wheels, split rim type, to fit Brabhams (march and Lola also) What I wanted to know is the offsets .. does anybody know the correct offsets for early brabhams ? They are perfect for all cars up to BT 38 when the look changed .. We sell a lot of these but I am always being asked re the correct offset.. if somebody knows this or where I can go,.. great .. Lola would be useful too .. thanks Doug |

Doug,
I own BT35-8 , I have 9's and 13's for wets and 10's and 14's for dry and will measure from the back mounting face to a straight edge across the rear of the rim. Not all of mine are genuine Brabham , neither are a lot of other peoples except they do not realise it. Some of mine are Palliser , nearly identical , unless you know how to spot the difference. Are you o.k. for March measurements as I also have a 74B , but only front 10's , my two sets of rears are period Dymags , 15's. Also have 5 x Melmags 2 x fr. 3 x r. 10's and 14's. can measure all if required. Bryan. |

BT23/5? According to an earlier post, Denis didn't have his BT23 until 1981. He also owned BT30/27 at one time and the timing would be better for that one but BT30 -> BT28 is quite a misprint.

I had a long chat with Denis the other day and he has extensive Brabham records. Looks like he might be racing again too.
He has been trying to cross reference the AM numbers, I must go and see him but he is 2,000 kms away from me! Bryan is this BT28-20 that Allen mentions? |

I did correspond with Denis in the 1980s and his records were very impressive. I'm glad to hear that he still has everything and is still involved.

Allen/ Andrew.
The car you are discussing is BT28-20 , from our research by 1970 with Dick Barker , then for sale with Bob Howlings Autosport 17-12-1970 chassis no. given , then to Alan Joy, Autosport 25-3-1971 , page 35 , then for sale 3-2-1972 page 53 Autosport by Elton's Motors . Accrding to F1R ran at Mallory PK. March 1972 European F2 round against my BT35 , fitted with a BDA. Untill that time had been a 1 litre F3 . For sale again Autosport 11-1-1973 , page 50 , listed as ex , Stow /Barker/Joy/Wadham-Smith , sale this time also by Elton's Motors. I think purchased very soon after and came to Australia . Was used by Denis in contemporary racing , untill later . Denis fitted at some point an FVA and later applied for but was declined historic status as he was unable to proove that the car had run as such in period . Believed still in this spec. Bryan. |

I think that Barker entered BT29-20 for the 72 F2 Mallory.Spencer had the BT28 for sale at the same time. The 29 coming from Peter Bloor as a cancelled order from Steve Matchett who went down the March route for 72.
