1)Michael - has he ever driven better?
2)Button - The surprise of the season. Fast and consistent. 3) Fisichella- After a couple of races settling into his new team, he is beating up on his teammate, as usual. 4) Trulli - Beating up on his much heralded teammate. 5) Sato-Still needs to calm down a bit, but when he does - watch out! 1. Schuey (not surprisingly)
2. Trulli (surprisingly) 3. Button (coming of age) 4. Montoya (car not doing him justice. Needs to open mouth less often, but is driving well, Nurburgring excepted) 5. Webber/Heidfield Honourable mentions to Sato (though still rough around the edges) and the two pairs of drivers unlucky enough to be sitting in McLarens and Toyotas this year. Rubens probably hasn't been too bad, but is being made to look decidedly ordinary by an extraordinary team-mate. |

1. Michael Schumacher - everyone's said why....
2. Jarno Trulli - finally found consistency 3. Takuma Sato - faster than Button 4. Jenson Button - silky smooth 5. Nick Heidfeld - good in useless cars worst: 1. Baumgartner - Lavaggi Mk II 2. Panis - DTM beckons 3. Pantano - not his fault 4. Fisichella - the most overrated driver 5. Barrichello - do you honestly have to ask why? |

Well I would wait till the last GP to post my favs.
I was extremely impressed by Webber's drive at Nurburgring. I think he drove the wheels of that truck-like Jag. Imho simply one the best performances of the entire season!! Way to go, Mark!!! |

z22..How rude of you!!!
the key words are "post my favs".. not post the top 5 best performing drivers So it can be Ralf/DC/Bruni/daMatta/Webber and nobody could say not But he has a bit of a point... For example, JPM started of the season well but hit a rock for the last 2. Fisi started being beaten by Massa but now put in consistently good performance. And Mclaren has a new car and that might help salvage Kimi's poor season, while Williams seem to be tied to a rock nowadays... so there's still everything to play for..and it'd be hasty to make a decision so soon. the topic ask of top 5 after 7 races (in this case Melbourne to Nurburgring), so i guess even if it's 20 years down the road, there's little to change the fact that who's the real deal in this 7 races |

Not necessarily my faves but top five I've enjoyed watching so far this season.
1. Button-I doubted him over the winter but it's been good watching him achieve a few podiums. 2. Truli-A much deserved win. 3. Klein-As someone mentioned before he over takes! Loved Bharain. 4. M Schumacher- Not a 'fan' but love watching him in quali. how does he do it? Also thanx for the tunnel thing, it's good to see genius's get it wrong sometimes too. 5. David/Kimi-I love fireworks. It's a tough list, I don't think I want to put 5 drivers on it. Most of them have been disappointing this year. Normally it's hard to make a best list because there are lots of good drivers. For some reason the vast majority are inconsistant, making mistakes, uncharacteristcally slow.
* Button's been fast, but he's in a great car. Regardless of that I'm not seeing a lot that says that he's better than the rest. * Sato is still learning and improving, but he shouldn't be on the list because he's always substantially behind Button. * Trulli has been okay, but Alonso has still been more impressive in some races. * Alonso has had some big problems, it's hard to give kudos to him. * Kimi's had a horrible time with his car, but he's not done much to impress in the short time before his engine grenades. He's no longer a fan/media darling primarly because his car stinks. * JPM has actually moved his car up the ranks through his driving and there's been some bad stratagy, etc. that has made his car look worse than it has truely been for most of the races. Fans tend to devaluate how much starting further back in the field effects one's race. * Webber has done okay, but with a couple of exceptions we're not seeing him do anything extrodinary. * Heidfeld has looked really good, beating cars that are faster and even if he doesn't beat them, often he gets his car temporarly ahead of better cars. * MS is doing a great job, better than 2003 (and that's not the car difference), but on the same token he's had very little competition. 1. MS 2. JPM 3. Heidfeld 4. Button 5. |

Behind Michael I'd go for:
2 Button 3 Montoya 4 Trulli 5 Raikkonen Fisichella's form in the last couple of races has been superb though, and could put him in the frame for a top drive. People are shamefully under-rating Kimi - what more can he do with that car? He managed to hold off a train of far better cars at the Nurburgring, which was amazing. |

I will say that Trulli and Sato have been the two drivers who I think have shone the brightest. Trulli has been beating Alonso rather handly this year and Sato has been quicker than Button on occasion and shown us what a racer can do in a relatively competitive car.
The two respective teams had better make some hay while McLaren and Williams gain their feet again. This is their chance to finish in the mix for the constructors championship. Tye |
