Yeah I remember the washing machines had a habit of electrocuting housewives...................
But Lightburn made some good electric drills. My father had one and it had some serious grunt, if the drill bit jammed the drill would just spin out of your hands and twist the cord around itself (or twist your arms out of their sockets. Now if only the Zeta had that much power! Now about their cement mixers and hydraulic jacks.......... |

The web page quoted gives the information that the engine was a Villiers of 354cc... probably it was used in a lawnmower somewhere or other. As for the Lightburn washing machine, these were twin-tub machines and the washing tub had a rubber sleeve that fitted over the top to prevent water splashing into the works. If it perished (if? ... more like 'when') there was a risk... ours had race tape to overcome the problem. |

Wasn't the Nexia the one that looked like an Astra with the edges melted away? One of the first Daewoo cars sold in the UK. Not a good car, although not very high in the ugly list, especially amongst the current crop of Cloneboxes!

Yes it was basically a Astra through and through. There'd only be slight modifications to the bodywork to 'distinguish' it from the real Vauxhall/Opel Astra.

I've driven a few bad ones!
Austin Maxi - allegedly five gears, but your chances of finding all of them were virtually zero. Morris Marina - loads of understeer, no brakes. Austin Allegro - what were they thinking of? Chrysler Alpine - no need for a radio, you'd never have heard it above the rattle of the engine......and a worse gearchange than the Maxi! Fiat Regata - the warning lights were apparently programmed to come on at random. Austin Metro - this was a hire car in Portugal. The perfromance seemed acceptable, but nothing special; then I realised that the speedo was calibrated in km/hr, not mph! Notice how many of those were products of our own dear BL? |

You really have to wonder what goes on in a designers head sometimes! (speaking only about the looks ot the thing.)

In that situation, the look of the car is unimportant- and it's all subjective of course!
Thinking of ugly cars, I recently found out that the design of a well known kit utility vehicle from the South of England (I have one of these cars, it fell out of the Ugly Tree from a great height and then climbed back for another go!) was actually not finished when the manufacturer picked it up and put it into production- the designer wanted another six weeks to tidy it up! How often does this happen in the mainstream car world? |

I read a story about the Triumph TR7 and that the designer kept having his designs knocked back so he designed a horrible wedge shaped car and submitted the design............................
Leyland's Management loved it and it became the TR7 Does anyone remember the TR7 bumper sticker: "I did it in a TR7" "What a Triumph!" |

That is the HDT prototype before HSV took over . After the polariser affair HDT had nothing left to do but to go fishing. HSV found out about this plastic thing that the HDT boys were into but could not find the blueprints but heard that it had a lid as big and as flat as a dining table ....
