When I smoked, most of the brands supporting F1 were not widely available in the States. I tried Rothmans having become aware of the brand through its sponsorship of Sportcars in the 70's, (long before the brand graced a Williams), but they were too expensive for a student's budget and tasted like...err...Le Mans at 3:00 AM.

I bought Benetton sweaters before they supported F1, (back when Flavio Flave ran the US division) and I bought Veltins before they supported Williams. But I will never buy Bud and I doubt I'd buy a Compaq.

I guess F1 support might influence my decision to try a product, but it hasd to stand on its own merits after the trial.

Good point, although Fosters at foreign GP is much better than in Britain. In the heat there it can be excellent (still a shame we don't get more chance of the local brews, which especially at Spa can be excellent).

I have also had a fantastic pint of Fosters at Oulton. A really hot day and I enjoyed the refreshing taste of the flavoured water

Oh damn, I'm afraid I let the beer snobs out again!

Like you said Adam, nothing like a nice easy to drink lager, uhmm, flavored water I think you called it, on a nice hot day!

Nacional was a brand of sigarettes IIRC.
From the Phillip Morris company, like Marlboro and L&M.

I've seen a list of Phillip Morris owned brands and Nacional was in there somewhere.

that would be very strange since nacional was also on Senna's helmet when he drove for Rothmans Honda,Camel Lotus and JPS Lotus.

Nacional was Brazil's 4th largest bank IIRC. No way could Marlboro and Nacional have been accomodated at the same time on the one helmet/driving suit if it were a tobacco brand.

When I bought my new car last year I made sure it had Michelin tyres on it. They wanted to put Bridgestones on, but I requested Michelin, in the end they changed them for me. I didn't want my money to go to Bridgestone and help Ferrari.

I also make sure I never fill up in a shell garage! I will not use Shell products!

Well, I'm abit confused, does that mean that advertising works, or it doesn't work, or only works in reverse, or only sometimes, or...

Advertising works according to your bias(es). You use it against some things and for some things. Very powerful thing, advertising...
