Steve Ellery was in the forerunner of the ASTC in 1994 & 1995. In '94 he drove an ex GSR Sierra sans turbo and in '95 he drove Tony Longhurst's '94 Championship winning Italian '93 BMW.
I have a poster of Steve Ellery's HYL Commodore in my garage. It's either a VR or VS, will check tonight. I'm sure the VT made it's V8SC debut at the start of 1999. |

Well, my money is on, that Ingall will stay at SBR and Ellery either staying at 888 or making his own team again.

LP also debuted the castrol VT at Calder in 1998 with Murph.
Bargs had his first win then too, against the mightly HRT. The VT's were then handed over to Lowndes and Ingall for HV, where Lowndes won the first race from Skaife, after his engine blew crossing the line, and HRT had troubles getting both cars started for R2. Ingall then won the round. Ellery had a VS commie from GMS. |

After Holden pulled the pin on the HYL deal after the 98 ATCC, the car was sold to John Trimble in 99 and written off in an accident at the Phillip Island round in 2000.

Thanks Anthony
But where were the 1999 HYL cars sourced from then? Were they the #15 and #50 cars from 98? |

The 99 HYL cars were the HRT VS from 98. One was chassis 034 the car Brock raced from the 96 Sandown 500 until the end of 97 and Skaife raced in the 98 ATCC, the other 035 which Lowndes raced from the 97 Sandown 500 and in the 98 ATCC, although I am not sure which was raced in 99 by Todd Kelly as # 15 and Mark Noske as # 99.
Kelly's was badly damaged in the opening Eastern Creek round and may have not been repaired, which would explain why chassis 033 was reactivated for Lowndes later in the year following the destuction of his VT in the Calder roll over. The Noske car was raced by Sakife at Indy later in the year, HRT not wanting to risk its VTs. |

INGALL PUTS RUMOURS BEHIND HIM Caltex Racing’s Russell Ingall has slammed recent rumour and innuendo about him leaving his current employers next season and is a focused as ever on winning his first V8 Supercar title. Ingall has come out with all guns blazing on the eve of this weekend’s seventh round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series at Queensland Raceway near Ipswich. Ingall currently sits third in the championship behind his Stone Brothers Racing team mate Marcos Ambrose and Holden’s Steve Richards and knows that he needs another solid result to ensure he stays in the championship hunt. In the eight events at Queensland Raceway since 1999 Ingall has only finished outside the top five once and won there twice (1999 and 2003). “It is true that I have not re-signed with SBR as yet, but we are confident of finalising an agreement in the next couple of weeks,” said Ingall. “This whole thing has been blown out of proportion because of an article which was taken way out of context “I am a contracted Ford driver until the end of 2007 and I want to remain with the best Ford team which is Stone Brothers Racing with the sponsorship of Caltex. “Ford has treated me tremendously well since my move three seasons ago and I see myself being a part of the Blue Oval Brigade for a long time to come. “There are plenty of blokes out there who like to stir this stuff up and try and unsettle us, but let me tell you, everyone at Caltex Racing is as focused as ever on trying to win this year’s championship. “I want to take the number one off Marcos’ door and race with it in 2006 on the Caltex Ford.” Ingall will have a new team mate at SBR next season with Ambrose announcing earlier this year that he will be heading to the US at the end of this season to chase success in NASCAR. Ingall has been runner-up in the championship four times, including last season to Ambrose, and knows that this weekend’s one-race (280km) format will be vital to his and the rest of the front-runners’ chances in this year’s title chase. “A DNF this weekend would be disastrous for anyone with a shot at this stage of the season,” said Ingall. “We are going into the weekend very well prepared after an encouraging test at Queensland Raceway last Friday. “SBR has won the last four events at the circuit and I can see no reason why we can not continue that streak this weekend.” |

don't believe everything you read a driver has said, if russ is talking to 888 he's hardly going to want sbr to know about it is he? have any of you given much thought to the many times russ has said he has found it very difficult to adjust his driving style to the sbr cars. maybe he wants to drive the way he wants to drive, not the way ross and jimmy want him to drive. sbr cars are apparently set up completely differant to any v8 russ has driven before, maybe thats why he cant match marcos, and he wants to go back to his old style of driving. 888 may just be the place to let him

Well, if Ellery is probley on the move to try and get Ambrose's seat in the Pirtek Falcon, then who will replace Ellery? My best bet is Paul Radisich, Steve Owen, Greg Ritter, Mark Winterbottom or Dean Canto. I think Garth Tander is a possiblity, but, I think he likes being with HSV Dealer Team.

The way Roland Dane is talking in Motorsport News he is happy with Ellery and says NO ONE is as good as Lowndes -
He went on to say Lowndes is the best touring car driver he has ever employed worldwide in his team 888 !!!! quite a compliment from a hard nosed racer/teamowner (but spot on) I knew that ! |

That's a bit rich coming from Dane, because when his triple 8 crew came to Australia, he was instructed to go and get a Holden/GM team, but to no avail. So Dane and his crew got talking to Ford Australia and got Team Betta Electrical.

[QUOTE=Greg Barton]That's a bit rich coming from Dane, because when his triple 8 crew came to Australia, he was instructed to go and get a Holden/GM team, QUOTE] Who instructed him??? - Dane is the owner of 888 and doesn't get instructed by anyone - after he bought what was the Briggs 000 outfit he could choose to keep it Ford or change to Holden - after talking to both manufacturers the Ford deal was better for 888 , and it is proving to be a smart choice , as was securing Lowndes as their #1 driver .

Xrystl, Dane was instructed by Triple 8 UK. He could not get the Briggs Team to Holden, after the ties with Ford the Briggs made, that would involve a massive pile of paperwork and if Ford said no, there was going to be a sticky court battle. So, Triple 8 Australia had no choice but to go with Ford.
