Is there any source on this or is it wishful thinking?

Pretty much... I suppose you could call a NGTC a semi-space-framed car. Ostensibly the front is fully space framed and depending on the configuration of the car, the rear is either part or fully space framed too. the middle passenger compartment is the production shell.

I agree with what others have said, the Honda looks brilliant... arguably the best looking estate racing car I've seen.

Interesting quotes. Peter Crolla, Team Manager commented: “Racing with the Civic Tourer means no compromise over the Civic hatchback. The weight, wheelbase, layout and suspension remain the same, but naturally, the length of the car is extended due to the larger tailgate. After two competitive seasons in the BTCC with the hatchback, it will be an interesting challenge to ensure the Tourer keeps Matt, Flash and the team at the head of the championships throughout next season. We’ve worked hard over the past few months to develop the first car which will be completed as we head towards the new year, with the first run scheduled for early January.” So basically the same but longer, more rear weight bias? The Civics were a more than a little tail-happy the last two seasons. And.... Phil Crossman, Managing Director, Honda (UK) concluded: “We wanted to add a new challenge to the mix and really show what Honda and the team can do. By racing the new Tourer after several years with the Civic hatchback we can really showcase our growing range and demonstrate that the versatility and practicality of a Tourer doesn’t compromise dynamic performance. We are only four months away from the start of the 2014 season and I can’t wait to see the cars out on the track. They’re going to look great and there’s no doubt in my mind that they will win races. Honda UK marketing decision rather than one based on racing dynamics? |

Why did Volvo stop using the estate?
I seem to remember it was due to the rear aero being compromised by the rules surrounding wing positioning? Rear wing had to be mounted below the level of the roofline or something? |

Yeah, the wing wasn't allowed to be above the roofline, nor behind the rear bumper.

because the rules changed for 1995 following the Alfa debacle and everyone was allowed a rear wing, the estate didn't make sense anymore

On the photo of Shedden's car it looks like the wing sits level with the roofline and within the limits of the rear bumper. The sloped nature of the rear lends itself to that whereas the old 850 was near vertical.
It'll be interesting to see how they compare with the Pirtek hatches! I think it looks pretty good and it appears it will lose the disadvantages of the hatch without losing the advantages! could be unstoppable! |

Martin Depper confirmed at Pirtek , hope he does a better job than Smith at least by not ramming people off the track

So, I'm betting he's just bought the car from Jeff Smith and gotten Eurotech to run it, makes sense as they know the car and he can learn a lot from someone like Andrew Jordan.

The tourer has exactly the same wheelbase as the standard Civic, so really it won't make that much of a difference. Slight change in the weight balance rearwards which will make it kinder to its front tyres, a stability improvement and also potentially an aerodynamic improvement (although this is managed by TOCA.)

I was thinking perhaps higher top speed due to the shape
we will have to wait until Donington and its long straight also you all forget the new Honda engine, I am very sure it will designed to work at lowest boost and get every inch of power out of that |

Didn't see that coming. Financial reasons? Can't possibly have been based on performance...

One thing that has made me scratch my head, in the promo materials so far, Neal's car has switched from #2 to #4 to obviously reflect his finishing position last season. But every pic/graphic I've seen of Flash's car still carries the #1. What's with that? If AJ had a superstition and wanted to stick with #77, surely #1 would go unused, or is Team Dynamics being lazy and not changing it to #2?
