Have any cars that flew this year not hit something first?

Hopefully Paul Truswell will come up with an analysis of the lap charts this year. His insight into the far less intense Audi-Peugeot battle last year was extremely illuminating.
It is interesting to know that Audi going for a compromise setup must have meant they were sacrificing ultimate dry weather pace in doing so. I felt that their race pace seemed a little weak in the first half of the race but, then again, so did Peugeot's. Nevertheless, it begs the question, how close could Audi have run Peugeot in a dry 24 this year, if both teams had optimal setups on? Maybe the answer is closer than we think. |

I thought this was about why Audi beat Peugeot, not low-flying LMP cars?

On the topic of flying cars though, maybe it's worth pointing out that Peugeot did run trouble-free enough to not be caught out by the parts shortage created in the wake of Gene's flight that destroyed the original #7 chassis. Perhaps this is because they reduced race pace slightly? That would explain why they never quite ran away and hid in the first 12 hours like we expected them to, despite Audi's setup compromise.

As has already been said - this isn't the LMP1 design flaw thread - so put posts on that subject in the correct thread please and keep this one on topic. Thanks.
I have plenty more things to do with my time other than cross-posting. I'lllet posters retrace their steps to the correct thread and I'll delete the extraneous material here in an hour or two...... Last edited by Aysedasi; 20 Jun 2008 at 17:26. |
