Now the dust has settled a bit after the 'Classic' has any one else had the good fortune to re-apply for an HTP as many will have to? Understandably roll over hoops/cages seemed to take some deal of importance in the process. Whilst I do not, under any circumstance to either see or hear of any tragedy in historic or modern motor sport, is the matter of roll over hoops, cages etc part of the inspection for the issue of an HTP. The way I see it, unless a complete cage is built to today's F1 standard, materials etc. and the whole car placed inside it, the roll over hoop/cage will be entirely reliant on the original structure's capabilities to withstand the forces imposed on it, should an incident occur.

I've not bothered yet, and not sure I will, just seems like a swizz. In ten years my cars never been inspected or checked by anyone for anything other than routine race scrutineering.

For the first time ever racing FIA cars I was asked to produce my HTP for the Marcos at the Oldtimer GP two weeks ago. That's Germans for you. I have never been asked to produce them in before in 8 seasons with MGB, TVR and Attila in the UK, France, Belgium, Holland or Italy.
Like many others I won't be bothering getting new papers unless it is a necessity for an event or championship and certainly not for all the cars. I think Mr Todt's idea of cashing in on the value of historic cars may not bring in the revenue he expected. |

There was a fair number of people further down the beach, I don't like crowds and I was having a quiet early evening drink while a group was setting up in front of me for a gig later on.
This was in Carboneras about ten miles down the coast. |

German preparer HWRT Tuning prepared a Gp1 RS2000 for Mario Ketterer 1980/81, and that is the car I have replicated. Ketterer was often sponsored by Jagermeister, including with an M3 in later years. The font for 'HWRT' on Escort windscreen isn't right so the graphics guys are having to find the correct one, but the rest of their work is spot on! If car performs OK on tuesday and not handle too badly will be looking to take it to Portimao. Suspension is all standard / homologated and non adjustable, so any changes needed are long winded! Expect I will need even shorter and stiffer front springs at least, and they will have to be be specially made, as have reached the limit of what is available over the counter. Anyone know a specialist spring maker who can handle any size and rate? (Have found one, but interested if are more than just them.) Last edited by Mike Bell; 28 Aug 2014 at 05:56. |
