No excuses John, 9489WW was the reg of my Mini that I passed my test in, that was 41 years ago, I also had a Willys Jeep reg SXY 984 at the same time. I can remember those numbers but I can't remember what I had for tea last night.

You must have been driving under age then Tim! ..... as indeed I was frequently. Got 'done' for it but my father 'knew' the Chief Super (I won't mention the town and he wasn't a mason!), so I just got a formal b****ing* My first car was an A30 reg No TKM913. Happy days

I think that most people can remember things like number plates from years ago because they were an important part of your growing up, my old man who will be a hundred years old in May can remember the reg number of his first motor bike from 84 years back but like most of us can't remember who was on the phone 10 minutes ago.
I can remember an old girlfriends birthday from 52 years ago because she was very good at a "certain" act but I won't go into that on this forum ! |

Can anyone help identify this car of my uncle? The photo was taken in 1951.

Also cheaper than my previous 'deal'. (Though not by much but there is no current direct comparison to it anyway. I had wondered why they had not been chasing me to sign up for an new extended term ... Upload speeds very much faster for everything except my Android phone which is stuck in the old days. That explains a lot about the phone. |

Passed my test in a Vauxhall Viva in a snow storm, but don,t know registration number.
My first car though was a 1960 maroon Austin Mini, 7590 VX, and I still have the log book. Never scrapped but turned into my first race car. I hope it is still out there somewhere and would do anything to get it back. |

OK,I fell over A over T last night and looks like I've broken a finger ,but will wait for the swelling to go down. Doing paper work now instead of proper work. I think it was 2006, long story this as its also at this weekend Alan Morgan and I thought up the idea of Historic FF2000. This weekend clashed with Goodwood so Duncan Rabaliati let me drive his Alexsis HF1.Qualifying and I'm on the front row but the lap times were somewhat dubios and I should of been a bit further down the grid.Me and Tony Goodwin who was on pole were both desperate to get a good start, I managed to select 3rd and got swallowed up by the pack.Lady luck looked down and there was a first corner pile up which I would of been involved in had I started in the correct gear. Any way I had a great race and got back up to 3rd with 2nd fastest lap time which was as good as my suspicious qualy time. So after lots of back slapping hand shaking and collecting trophies, me, Bill Grimshore and Tony Goodwin climb into the back of the Citroen for are lap of honour.Still on cloud nine and as some of you that know me I am a little on the noisy side sometimes. Well,.. we are sat there and the two French officials get in the front to take us round and they realise the keys are missing. I then clock whats going on and shout out AHHHH THEY HAVE LOST THE KEYS!!!. And not realising I shouted out very laud and the whole of the granstand heard and erupted in laughter. Happy days. |

I agreed to go for a drive in the country and look where we ended up - what a surprise . Managed two laps (albeit in a hired Nissan Almeria) with a best of 6 mins 14 sec but that included 36 photo stops and one comfort break!
New found respect for the speed that they take through the 'mountain' section, quite challenging I suspect. One holiday, two circuits (so far), can't be bad. |

Designed by aero engineers Mike . . . thin! early escorts are the same surely?
its incredibly good, considering, and 90% of repairs are accident damage so thankfully its very original still, which I like, it is 50 years young last month. a new cage should stiffen and reduce weight, hopefully it'll last another 50 years and Arthur can have a bit of fun in it |
