As has been sdaid, that leaves a lot of room for interpretation of the word "pinnacle". They're the best in F1, definitely, but "pinnacle of motorsport"? No, not for me.

pinnacle? motorsport? sorry folks but to me F1 is now a show & huge commercial operation, to me motorsport = racing = overtaking & wheel to wheel racing, i havent seen much of that in F1 recently so im afraid got to give it a no vote..... & yes i do watch it regularly in the hope of seeing some real racing + overtaking!

I realise this is really about talking about the sitaution now and in the past.
However if you take the continual develpment theory then we haven't reached the pinnacle yet.
Or if you value some of the things we have lost and dramatic innovation then we are forever moving away from the pinnicle.
Also you have to consider other branches of motorsport. At Le Mans they race for 24 hours, IRL has higher speeds, Rally has different conditions, Rally raid more so, Bikes have more dicing, Pikes Peak has more innovation. All arguable, but all surpass F1 in different (limited) ways.
Then there is the other arguement. These teams and drivers are currently the most professional in the history of the sport (so far).
Hmmm interesting, but I voted no. We either haven't reached it or it was one of those golden ages we keep harking on about.

In terms of competition F1 is most definitely the pinnacle. You don't see manufacturers and teams spending this much anywhere else to win, and that's not to mention most of these teams are good enough to completely dominate just any other series out there.

It's A pinnacle, one of three of the same height. The other two are the WRC and Motogp.

What.. F1.. Pinnacle?? Well F1 is the most 'expensive' sport but that doesnt make it the Pinnacle. And what exactly do you mean by Pinnacle?? F1 can be said to be a pinnacle of 'ENGINEERING', but F1 is NOT the pinnacle of 'RACING' anymore. I do believe that MotoGP, Rally and GT provide better racing than F1. F1 is more nostalgia...

F1 is the pinacle of Motorsports.
It is important to realise that when we talk about pinnacle, it's not saying the level of "competition" or number of overtakings a season...
Touring cars have alot of racing...but is it the pinnacle? Nah..
F1 is the leading motor-racing event in the world right now. There's no denying it. In terms of technology, organisation, reach to audience, purity of competition, speed, engineering, innovation, etc.
One thing that is important to note is that F1 allows free competition, even if there is few now. There are no rules that "fix" the show with success-ballast/reverse grid/etc. A regulation/rule set for all teams and the best team/driver wins.
And everything combined makes me take F1 more seriously, while events like TC/CART/Nascar only provide entertainment and little value.
However, IMO, F1 cannot take for granted it's leading status. GT racing/WRC could easily take over it's position if the races/rules are done correctly, and marketed as brilliantly as F1. F1 CANNOT rest and slow down progress.

Of course it is.
Naturally there can be moments when other formulae grant a better spectacle, but so what?
It can happen.
Just to make an example 2k Football European championship was far more spectacular than 2002 World Cup, but the world cup is and remains the pinnacle of football.

How can F1 NOT be a sport is completely beyond me. How exactly do you define a sport anyway!?

F1 is no different from GT/Lemans/WRC as a sport..the only difference is that it managed it's business/marketing side more successfully.

The pinnacle? That depends- look at CART- YES, or maybe NO, because CART isn't what it used to be. It's all relative.
