Bugatti Veyron - Ouch!

Some genius has crunched a Veyron:

Don't fancy the repair bill for that one!

(apologies for the link to a shoddy rag but it's the only place I could find a picture )

That's almost as much as my budget for Heritage this year !
I remember a few years back a Ferrari being written off near my house. The guy had collected it that morning .

Ahhh, i was actually gonna make a topic about this because i read about it late last nite. I donno what the idiot expected to be honest. It was a 40mph area and he goes 100mph. I mean if you are going to do those speeds then at least do them on the motorway or something or how about a track? O well his loss i guess, if he had enough money to buy it (or rent it) then he has enough money to pay for the damages.

I'm sure that the one not getting any sleep is his insurance broker. The owner must be thinking "Bummer! I guess that means that I'll have to go back to the SLR for a while now".

There's so much rubbish circulating around this story.

For a start, how could anyone possibly know it was doing 100mph? From the damage, I'd say it was doing less than 40mph on impact. That smacks of being just made up on the spot by a rag top journo. 100mph sounds impressive.

And there are soooooo many stories - some say it was hired, some say it was the owner's brother...

For an amusing scene, he rang up for a quote, but they didn't make him happy because they hadn't heard of it. You may be referring to another Clarkson moment when he was more categorical, but it isn't uninsurable.

As long as the car has a MOT and Tax certificate any car is insurable if you throw enough money at it. And hey if nobody would insure a Veryon and you have enough money to own one you could always start up your own insurance company.

Slippy Diff should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
One witness who took our exclusive photos said:

“It was clearly an almighty bang. Bits of Bugatti were strewn all over the road. The front had been virtually ripped off, every panel was damaged and the front wheels were pointing in opposite directions.”

Is it just me or does the front look reasonably intact, the wheels seem to be pointing in roughly the same direction and the rear of the car looks undamaged?

As for the owner and the driver, you just know that one or both will be wearing sovereign rings, have a trophy wife and live in a mock tudor house, "I yam considrably richer than yow".

You're right, the "eyewitness account" doesn't tally up with the photos.

The bonnet is carbon fibre - that's why there were bits all over the road. And as you say, the damage is pretty superficial. 40mph impact - ish.

Of course, the truth rarely gets in the way of a sensationalised tabloid story...

As most crashes are caused by going to fast for peoples talent , looking at the pictures the final impact may have been 40/50mph . Dont forget the guy ain't going to creep along in that type of rocket ship also the brakes probably cost more than my entire yearly budget and could loose 60mph in a few feet !!

This is probably a heathen moment, but was it that ugly before it was bent/broken? A classic example of money not being able to buy taste. Still, if he can afford to buy it, he can afford to repair it.

True but I doubt that information had been downloaded and disseminated to the press in time for their 100mph claims in the following morning's rag.

I can imagine they were there pretty quickly... but I'm still not sure they'd have passed the information on.

Not that it honestly matters.... someone probably told the reporters that it had been data logged at 100mph at some point that day or something - so the reporter thought they'd add two and two and make 27 as usual.
