Most fun car driven.........
Following on from Inigo Montoya's thread whats the most fun car you've owned and/driven?? Doesnt have to be fast or flash.
I'll start the ball with - My Peugeot 205 1.9 GTi I used to have. Fantastic fun, go-cart handling and a turn-in like nothing else. And of course, an opposite of sorts (dont laugh), my Citroen 2CV6. More smiles per mile than most. Well..................? Last edited by habanero; 24 Sep 2001 at 14:48. |

Purely for the fun, the 1967 Daihatsu 800 Cabriolet or the 1972 Toyota Corolla Levin...
Not much chance of having fun like that any more, most cars of the 'fun' size are front wheel drive. |

I've not driven many cars, but I had loads of fun with my Dutton Melos- very 'chuckable' (dry roads only!) and wouldn't cost a fortune to fix if I got it wrong! (only span it 3 times!) Very high Grin Factor!
The Hurricane comes a close second, but it dosn't like being thrown around in the same way, and it would cost more to fix! |

Yeah - Bluebottle - my most fun car was the Dutton Melos - cost me a fortune though. Broke down whenever I planned a long journey
But loved driving it in the summer |

For me it's a toss-up between two cars.
My father's Peugeot 405 'Style' which I got to drive for the whole summer in '92 when he broke his wrist and needed a chauffeur It was the bottom of the range model (but didn't look it - nice grey paint and a spoiler) and so had a 1600cc twin-choke carb'd engine, unassisted steering and 165 tyres. I'd only ever driven my mother's 998cc Austin Metro before this so it was like stepping into a spaceship. The thin tyres, beautiful steering and rightly famous Pug handling made those couple of months stick in the memory... The other nomination is my Mini Cooper ('90 Rover carb model) which was as good as the Mini Legend suggests. It always encouraged you to push it harder and was fun at all speeds. Incidentally, the new BMW MINI retains a lot of this character. |

The most fun car I have owned was a 1990 Honda CRX Si. Good handling and nice power to weight ratio.
The most fun car I have ever driven was a twin turbo Nissan 300 ZX. It had the active differential and was just awesome in acceleration. I didn't get to try it out on a good twisty road but I fear it was a bit heavy to be chuckable. |

I'd have to say a 1999 Honda Civic VTi-R. Very chuckable and lots of fun to throw around.
I had fun in a BMW 316i Compact too. Scared the hell out of the salesman while I was at it |

Best car to date has to be the current Nissan 200SX, power slides on exit from roundabouts are becoming the norm ! Also good on a long run as very easy to drive at the 70 / 80 mark on the motorway.
The Pug 205gti was quite good on a twisty road but tiring on a motorway. Failing that my bright yellow trusty & rusty Alfasud ti. Always started (unusual for the breed) accelerated and cornered well. Took in to Le Mans in the 80's and kept up with a Golf GTI, only losing out when we hit the dual carraigeway (This was before the new roads were completed). Simon |

1970 BMW 2002, probably the best car I have ever owned. Before that a 1965 Corvair Corsa, lots of fun to drive on a gravel road. Probably the best handling car ever built up to that time in the USA. Unfortunately Nader killed all that. Before that a Riley 1.5, complete with walnut dashboard. It would do 95 mph with a dog in the trunk, 2 kids in the back seat and a wife sitting next to me. She could only see the tach and it would read 6500, so she was happy as I did not go above the speed limit. However the kids knew the actual speed and always tried to get me going 100 mph. We never did get it up there, it was fun trying.
PS. From 1959 on all my cars had seat belts in them. Initially war surplus belts out of bomber aircraft. |

A car with so much promise, that Corvair was Hans! Nice to see it mentioned here. Always thought I'd like to own one, but very very few made it to Australia. Was it the turbocharged version?

Hello Ray;
No it was the Corsa with 4 carburators, a real going concern. I also knew the test driver at GM, he was racing a corvett at the time, he told me that they where testing a flat 8th cylinder engine, air cooled. The Corvair was to be the poor mans corvett in the future. But then Ralph Nader came along and that killed it all. My Corsa had the corvett style rear suspension and did not experience the same problems that the earlier models had. But once Nader wrote about the car it died a natural dead. I did drive the Turbo model that a friend had, it was a blast. I almost wrecked it as I was driving in the city and had my foot in it and then the turbo cut in. Quit exiting it was. The two road workers saw me coming sideways and they jumped and I managed to gather it up. It was the turbo lag that needed some work on it. |

Yes, it was very early days for the turbos then...
I can never forgive Nader for what he did to what was potentially, if not actually, America's best production car. The man used lies and deception, so how can anyone trust him again.. after all, the book came out about two years after the suspension revision. The carburettored version would have been plenty, I think they were about 3.2 litres weren't they? |

AMoffat;
Unfortunately the answer is no, as a photographer I never bothered to take photos of my own car. The only thing I have left of the Riley 1.5 is a badge that came of the front grill after a collision with a drunk. It was the only Riley in Toronto that was red with a white roof. The first one I had was wrecked 3 hours after taking deliverie while standing still at a traffic light. Ray Bell; Can't remember what the displacement was in the Corvair, it has been a long time. I still don't like Nader, we still have warning buzzers in our cars because of him. Mo Carter, of Hamilton, used to race a Corvair and then a Corvair Stenko (I think), used to get some nice photos of him going around Moss Corner on 3 wheels. He is reputed to have a barn full of brand new Corvairs hidden away some where. Don't know how much truth there is to that story. |

most fun car i have ever driven was an old 504 fuel injected peugeot i once owned
it was lowered and had a sports exhaust on it and went like the clappers the other one that was fun to drive on any surface and you could really hang the rear end out in and really enjoy driving was of course another 504 with a 604 V6 and 5 spd in it that thing was amazing at the moment i am just happy with the 306 GTi6 that i have a lot of fun but just doesn't have the same thrill of rear wheel drive |

Most fun ever: my Crossle 35 US Formula Ford.
Most fun on the roads: Honda Sabre V65 1100cc motorcycle. Most fun on the highway: 1982 Lamborghini Countach, driven from NYC to Minneapolis. Most frequent question at gas stops: "What'll it do in the quarter mile?" Second most frequent question: "Do you need a girlfriend?" |

Ah! The supercar experience.
Well, definitely the best fun I had was test-driving the Aston Martin DBS Vantage a couple of years back. My first experience of really high performance motoring. Just the sheer delight of being able to sidle up behind a BMW M3 Coupe, and flash my lights at it (aided and abetted by the salesman, who was keen that I saw what his car could do) and watching that Bimmer creep meekly into the slow lane for me. Bliss. Best cheap thrills had to be the Volkswagen Variant 1600TL Fastback I had as a first car. Independent rear suspension, heavy rear engine, twin carbs and rear wheel drive made for interesting handling at the best of times. But in the snow.... .....wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! I learned a lot about opposite lock from my old Variant. |

My Rober 416si was fun to drive because it had no grip on corners. My ex boyfriend's 2.0l turbo Fiat Coupe was fun to drive cos it was fast!

Bikes
AMoffat, I had a Ducati 916 and it stirred the soul like nothing else. Looks, sound and handling were out of this world. Sorely missed now so I'm hankering after a 996 as soon as funds allow.
Hab Triumph T509 was another fun bike but not as good as the Duke. |
