The Driving Man

I sat there quietly watching one day
"Worse part of the job" he used to say
tying the tarps and checking the load
"i'd much rather be on the road"


To me his life seemed complete
You should have seen him there upon his seat
We waved goodbye as he drove down the street
until the next time we would meet.


We used sit and talk for a while
and throughout it was a constant smile
hour after hour, mile after mile
his job was a joy and never a trial.


He really was one of the nicest blokes
quick with the wit, or to offer a smoke
you'd laugh and laugh at his anecdotes
be they bout trucks,cars,buses or boats


But you didnt show up the other night
In fact your truck was nowhere in sight
I sat there waiting to unload your truck
Instead we were faced with the cruelest of luck


Life had dealt you its final blow
It was your last trip, no one was to know
It wasnt the way it was meant to end
I say to you Goodbye my friend.
