How many old Vettes does P&M have lying around to sell off/lease to them? Would be a good looking Vette in their colors and some good support for them at each track. And plenty of spares lying around or could be produced.

Still, any news on whether a GT500 car can compete at Le Mans for 2013? |

GT300's being allowed in GTE would be a great addition. You'd add Subaru, Toyota, Honda right off the bat if they allowed the rear drive hybrids at least.

GT500 could be easily 2nd fastest "class" after P1?

They run ballast anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if they were on the pace of P1's if the restrictor size was increased. 1100kg and they still run faster than P2's. Take away 200kg and they may as well be just as fast without the restrictor being increased.

Well, that doesn't make sense. Similarly you could say P1s could be run without the ballast or P1s could be run with bigger restrictors... If this happens in the future, for sure the car is required to run in SGT-legal form (with maybe some ACO modifications).
After Fuji 6 hours we know how much slower SGT is. |

Is there anything in the 2014 LMP1 regs that says the car can't look like a street car? I know there are aero advantages to the LMP style, but if a manufacturer wanted to race a street inspired LMP in 2014 nothing would stop them on the regulation front. So if a GT500 (which will be switching to a 2.0litre turbo hybrid engine) fits the maximum car size and all the crash test rules, engine rules, etc., shouldn't they be able to run LMP1? |

Why not allow 2 Honda HSV 010, 2 Lexus SC 430, 2 Nissan GTR GT500? and of course why not allow 2 BMW M3 DTM, 2 Mercedes C Coupe DTM and 2 Audi A5 DTM?
The actually grid of LM24 is 56 cars, if we add 12 cars more (GT500 + DTM) are 68 cars. 68 cars are not much for a circuit of 11 km. The expectations generated by the participation of these cars would be fabulous. |

I relish the idea of SGT and DTM cars at Le Mans. Then the problem becomes where does that put GTE as the supposed premier tin top class....Sometimes when you love two things its best to just keep them apart.

I am certain that the requirements of LMP1, including the dimensions, BHH, BHF, etc. would rule out a GT500 car without extensive reworking. A car whose design is not maximized for a rules set, is highly unlikely to be competitive anyway. |

DTM and GT500 would become something like GT1. |

While it is fanciful, why exactly do the manufacturers want to be involved in this? Audi so far refuses to allow the R8 to be homologated, so that they can retain control of their brand image... why would they support this? |

That was also my fear. It would be an annoyance to a lot of makes currently in GTE to have these sedans leading the way for GT.
SGT/DTM and GTE cannot get along. SGT is more of a fit for GTE than DTM because they're not exactly racing sedans but with the unification of regs to favor DTM its a dangerous idea. |

But how about this instead: the upcoming turbo hybrid gt500 engines could be used in a bespoke lamp chassis if Honda or Nissan so chose. May be a way to lower the development cost of a lmp1 project |

It does appear to me that the engine is left pretty open under the new rules, just meet the fuel efficiency, so that certainly is possible.
