Slowgartner to Coloni

I just heard the news. This report comes courtesy of AUTOSPORT.com.

Hungarian Zsolt Baumgartner has signed for Formula 3000 front runners, Coloni, for 2003.

Baumgartner drove for Nordic Racing this year – his first in the series – but although he failed to score a championship point, he acquitted himself well against team-mates Ryan Briscoe and Thed Bjork.

"We are extremely happy with the conclusion of this agreement," said team founder Enzo Coloni, who's outfit finished second in this year's drivers' championship with Giorgio Pantano.

"Baumgartner is one of the most talented drivers in F3000 and Coloni Motorsports will do the best to achieve important targets with Zsolt."

At the Hungarian Grand Prix earlier this year, Baumgartner experienced his first taste of Formula 1 when he performed a series of demonstration laps in a Jordan.

Hmmmmm. I thought he had a 2 year deal with Nordic anyway.

Looks like Coloni went after the money rather then talent...

I didn't know that Coloni were in soooo much need for money. Baumgartner is one of the worst drivers in a good car ever. And I'm not saying this just bcause he's hungarian

Well guys I don't know. In the second half of the season he drove solid races. I am not saying he is mega good or anything, but he is not the worst driver that is for sure. His very high-hope teammates at Nordic did not do any better than him, so we shall see. Also, he had lot of problems with his car in the first half of the season as far as I know. So give him a break, we will see next year. By the way, I am not saying this because I am a Hungarian :-))).

2001 was only a partial year for him, with team Prost Junior. As far as I know (and I know it preatty damn well), he had a language issue with the team there. So basically 2002 was his first year.

Hello Attila ... i am with you on this.
Zsolt is not a mega driver, but let him have a break with Coloni and then we will have more to judge his performances.

Good luck to you Hungarians.

JR ok I can live with that. Lets put it that way than, 2002 is his first full season. Actually, he can be all right, in slower corners he is very very fast. So we'll see.

There are three other drivers testing here as well such as Enrico Toccacello, Patrick Friesachert and Tony Schmidt.it was a 4-days-long test az who else but your good old Slowgartner was the fastest,in fact he was ONE AND A HALF SEC faster than Enge's cancelled pole.(they all ran with car No.24 with 2002spec but it was a privat test certainly) I hope Zsolt will get a really well experied team-mate cause non of this guys are any better than him.I can also easily prove it with results from La Filiere School,FRenault, and german f3 as Zsolt already has met these guys.you can put him down because he is not a mega-driver as others said, but then dont forget to put down all the drivers who are presenting the same level....i mean if you want to be negative all the way up the line.

oh and by the way he was on 1+1 year deal with nordic and nobody is suprised that he left a team with lack of motivation,a team that is for sale since the middle of the summer.

sorry! i was at hungaroring yesterday and everybody was using the car No.24
and Zsolt's unofficial record was around 1:26.6 but i saw in Coloni's
test report that it got a half a sec. faster today and (Pantano's) car No.25
was also in use.by the way Zsolt said yesterday that its incredible how much
better the stabiliy of the car was in the corners and also the brakes were much
softer and more smooth comparing to Nordic's car.not to mention the squad.

Thank you maxipapis, I am very very happy to hear that. I knew that Zsolt is better than everybody expects him. Are you working with the team? R U still in Hungary? Let me know, sztanko@yahoo.com or 30 219 4035. Cheers,

Zsolt is a very talented driver, who had in the second half of this year some of impressive race. He was very good in A1-Ring, and in Hungaroring and also in Monza. I hope, Zsolt will very sucsessfull next season.

Well sceptics, according to todays news, your "Slowgartner" just kicked some arse. He was third fastest in a test, beating some serious drivers. According to team he was consistent and very quick. Do not judge anybody before he has the chance to prove himself. :-)))

I don't like him being called Slowgartner but let's face it, is a team gonna be critical of him when he pays a big chunk of their budget?

Also this is only testing which means NADA
