Chrysler Voyager

Chrysler are 'proud' to announce the 10,000,000 th Voyager has been built ! Proud! The least green car ever made according to a prize it once won - a vehicle so embarrassing even Tony & Cherie once had one........

The Voyager was (don't know if it still is) once rated by someone somewhere as the least safe MPV.

Do you know what makes it the "least green" car?

I have a 1995 Dodge Caravan, which is the same as the Voyager. I don't know what they are selling on your side of the pond, but on the left side, they are regarded as being safe.

http://www.nhtsa.gov/cars/testing/ncap/Vans.cfm

It's not the best in terms of assembly and materials quality, but it is a good value for the money. It is also very comfortable and easy to drive. And it gets 25 on the highway.

I'd change the carpet and the upholstery, and add more sound deadening material to it. And maybe a few more bolts here and there to quell them squeaks.

The 1st gen models were truely abysmal vehicles, though.

The least "green" car ever made? No way. I could name 15 vehicles of the top of my head that are mass produced and get worse gas mileage than that mini-van. Hell, I can see ten out the window of my office right now!

The tests I'm thinking of were independant tests several years ago, looks like they've improved a bit since then!

By European standards the Voyager is a bit of a guzzler and I also remember seeing the crash test results where it did poorly.

Someone around Cambridge has one in the vilest shade of lipstick pink imaginable, a colour that would look ok on something like a Citroen Saxo looks so bad on a huge bus like the Voyager.

As I recall it was the least green not only for its awful consumption but also its size and safety as well as the production process in particular at the factory in Austria

By European standards is also one of the largest vehicles. You can't have a large vehicle and then expect it to just sip fuel.

When you've got 8-litre gasoline engines in 7000-pound trucks roaming your highways, _then_ you'll know what bad mileage is!
