I have to have a grin about my UK residence as when we wanted to buy it years ago we had a bit of a job trying to get a mortgage on it.
Most of the "big boy" companies had a look at it and said "it hasn't got any foundations" so wouldn't play ball. One company that specialised in old properties came round and said "well as it's an old oak beamed house that has stood for 500 years and hasn't moved in that time we would doubt it will fall down in the next 25" and gave us the money . |

You get that all the time here, most houses I've lived in are old . . . the whippersnappers that survey don't understand. No the foundations don't go down to hot larvae, but the walls are 2ft thick and built of flint. they haven't twitched in over 300 years.
Our extension is single storey and the foundations are at least 1' deeper than the house. There's a small crack in the extension plasterboard between the roof and wall. Quote:

Of course the UK could apply for similar aid to improve their own infrastructure. |

We could, but it just means that the UK's net contribution to the EU would rise, as opposed to Spain which is barely, if at all, a net contributor to the EU. This is no longer the Common Market that I voted to join, although I would probably vote to remain in the EU if they reversed most of the treaties that they have signed in the last 20 or so years.

Ooh now, don't forget we have to repeal the 1998 HRA too.

In about 1962 I was moved out of my ugly Victorian primary school into a brand spanking state-of-the-art new build on the outskirts of town where I spent several happy years. On a visit back to Aberdeen a couple of years ago I was saddened to see the new school had been demolished and a replacement was being built. Needless to say, the granite Victorian edifice is still in business, and now looks rather grand!
Our house is probably built on less foundation than Gordon's, 9" brick straight onto clay. When we extended, the building regs man insisted we put in 3 metres of concrete due to the proximity of some large horse chestnuts, can't help feeling that was a bit OTT. |

Not the love child of an HRG and ERA then........
Reading some blurb on the next generation Land Rover models. Apparantly there will be no indicator stalk, but the driver will signal the vehicles turns using "gesture control". Hand Signals! |

Newly fitted (yesterday) bath waste outlet leaked. Needed sealant where it should not have needed any on a thread. Also it's a gnat's off being entirely level as it kept shifting as I struggled to reach stuff to tighten it. So the last drops of water don't quite drain off. Grr. It'll have to stay like that. Changed a badly cracked plastic handle fitted to the bath. Realised afterwards that removing the old seized bolt fitting could have been done more easily - didn't really need the hacksaw at all ... doh! Now have to change the other handle as the colour mismatch is more noticeable than I had hoped it would be. But that one is at the inaccessible back of the bath against a wall so working blind a full stretch. Not fun. Braided (metal) flexible hose to the cold tap in our cloakroom was leaking yesterday, soaked quite a lot of wooden floor and trims. Suspected a joint on the isolation valve but it seems that the hose has sprung a leak in the middle. Bizarre. No idea why that might be. Nor, yet, quite how much water escaped before it was spotted. The knock-on effects may be significant. Meanwhile ... last time out at Mallory 10 days ago I stupidly considered breaking in to a trot at one point to get to a better photo position. After 3 paces a tiny twinge in a knee suggested that might not be a great idea so I stopped. But the twinge has not gone away. Yesterday I thought I would 'walk it off' with an errand into the village - about a mile and bit in total. The knee has been getting more uncomfortable by the hour ever since. Fitness? Dangerous if you ask me (especially when I am contorted try to reach the darned bolts on the bath handle!) Iain, I assume the new seat is to be tested on Wednesday? I'll see if I can get a mobility scooter for the day - may need one by then based on current progress. |

My right knee has ached for years. If I overuse it, it hurts, if I don't use it, it hurts, so may as well just carry on and ignore it.......
Seeing as we are comparing days, mind consisted of cleaning 7 cars and 1 van. Stopped short of doing the truck, will see what Sunday weather brings.... Now making 'left over chicken' curry and smells good. |

My day consisted of getting up at 2am for a pee, going back to bed, waking up again at 3am and getting up at 3.15am for work. I got home at 8, took dogs for a walk then went back to bed. The dogs then decided that 10 am would be a good time to bark at anything that moved within a 5 mile radius of the house. So I got up again at 1030, went and changed a wheel bearing from the M** and MOTd the Landcruiser. Got home and have spent a few hours putting the front hub back on the *G* and have just come in from bleeding the brakes.......on my own again as uncle Eric forgot to come round and help me. Time for wine me thinks.
