"Push to Pass" button. WOTF?

From the OWRS ex CART launch this week (not that it really matters as the teams jump to IRL like rats off a burning barge...)

Making its return to the series this year after an absence of a couple of years, will be the ‘Push-to-Pass’ button. This device gives the cars around an extra 50hp whenever it is applied, by providing an extra 2 and ½ pounds of boost pressure. This device will enable more overtaking opportunities for drivers; however it will also add another strategic element to the race. It will be controlled and monitored by Champ Car so that a driver can only use it for a maximum of 60 seconds during the course of a race. Therefore the drivers will have to choose their moments carefully, and be sure not to waste any of the allowed time, while keeping some in reserve incase it is needed late in the race.

Imagine this in the Supertaxis???

No wonder OWRS is in trouble with ideas like this. Sounds like something out of Wacky Races!!!

Formula One cars of the Turbo era had adjustable boost. The FIA limited the amount of fuel the cars could car so the driver had to pick his moment when the use full boost to overtake. It was always a balancing act bewteen boost and fuel usage.

But any attempt to increase overtaking in the OWRS must be encouraged. With the exception of the oval tracks there have been few races which have featured much or any overtaking at all in the last few seasons.

I had such a device on my STi.. two buttons for different boost levels, everyday 1 bar, hang-on-to-yer-hat 1.3 bar.

Worked for me!

mixxer has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Big guy the young bloke next door has a R33 GTR filled with G-Reddy G-Rex equip, he has a profec e1 boost controller/Data logger that does the same thing, we took it to the drags a couple of weeks ago and he ran a 11.01 on street tyres I drove it on 1 pass but the best I could do was a 11.68 (I couldnt afford to break it so I wussed out on the gear change's) and the big a$$ Turbo on that car got damm hot in just a 1/4 mile.

I don't think this button is something new... it's just making a comeback. Then again, you can drive around all day with your finger on the button

The "Button" was used extensively in the mid 80's, and I dont mean for turbo's. Show us your NOS!

The F1 go faster button changes the fuel and ignition mapping from memory

Maybe David Thexton should install one & keep it pressed down the whole race.

This sort of device has been around for years and years, thanks to our good friends at Sega, Sony Playstation and Nintendo!

F3 has had this (and still does) for a long time.

No one talks about it much though........

He had "indestructible" toggled on. Got through that mess without a scratch.
