Alfa Romeo 8:th Manufacturer in the STCC
Alfa Romeo confirmed
STCC 03/04/03 Niklas Karlsson will drive an Alfa Romeo 156 in the STCC 2003 and 2004. It wasn't really as Euroracing and Nicklas Karlsson had in mind. It wasn't possible to acquire a used Alfa Romeo 156. There fore AutoDelta, which is Alfa Romeo's factory team in ETCC, a completely new Alfa Romeo 156 for the STCC. "Since we had decided to drive in the STCC it stood clear that there was no reasonable car for sale," said Kari Mäkinen. "After several phone calls our Italian friends decided to build a completely new car for us. And they promised also to have it ready for the première at Falkenberg. The car will from the start be equipped with a engine and transmission from last years specifications." Alfa Romeo is one of the most successful manufacturers in the ETCC and has a long tradition of wins in Touring car racing. "The car we get we will optimise for the Swedish series, but we are not counting on testing the car in Sweden but it will go directly in to the action at Falkenberg," said Börje Wessman. "Both Nicklas and I are aware of what this means. Among other things we are preparing us by meeting AutoDelta and familiarising with the car at the ETCC premiere at Barcelona this weekend." The team has intention to drive the STCC season 2004 with this car as well. Something that everyone in the team are very happy with because this years' season will be focused on new stuff and limited recourses. It would take too much energy and not be economically dependable to only make this programme for this year. Everyone in the team are very motivated and thing that Alfa Romeo will show that the car can take the Scandinavian climate, despite that earlier there has been little success for the manufacturer in STCC races. "I look forward to drive a completely new car and I am impressed by AutoDelta's commitment for us to get to the start," said a after the circumstances pleased Nicklas Karlsson.
