If the car shown in Dumas' photo was the 2016 car, it seems that right now the major changes are under the skin. Aside from the upgraded engine and hybrid system, only major change reported so far is changes to the front suspension geometry.

In the Autosport article it mentions updated suspension and 2016 engine hybrid system so there may not be new bodywork as yet. If they follow F1, trends I would not expect to see new bodywork until much closer to the start of the new season.

If they're at 18 inches, they can't go any larger because 18 inch is what the rules allow.

It would depend IMO, if he would do a private test and brief PR vid about it at Aragon or some other sterile soulless place it would be quickly passed and forgotten, but if he'd be able to do a demo 919 laps at Le Mans or some other historic place with connections (Daytona? Sebring? Nordsc... well ), and especially if there was little more going on with it, that's another thing.
Anyway, it'd be more of a lovely gesture than anything else. |

Porsche are doing the Nurburgring 24h next year with a works team for the first time in years. I smell an opportunity for 919 demo laps...

Maybe they could bring back the abandoned third 919 for LM Test Day only, and let him drive that there. In case of "Nigel Mansell on P1" esq performance, also bring regular factory driver to the second seat to make some potential face saving banker overall laps ;P

Porsche LMP1 Discussion
I doubt Bell would be anywhere as bad as Mansell. He might be a tad older then your average LMP1 pilot but it seems that age doesn't slow him as much as others.
Why not Hans Stuck or Jacky Ickx perhaps? |

Probably more like Bronze based on age--Derek, Jacky and HJS have to be pushing 70 by now. Platinum based on accomplishments in racing, though, given that they're legends of the sport.

I can't believe he's in his 70s, he's still relatively young looking. He's certainly a true gentleman of the sport

That's true, and these guys can still go pretty damned fast when they feel the urge to.
Interesting story: I have an old People Magazine that had then Houston Astros baseball player Derek Bell (yes, he had a very similar name, though I'm not sure if Derek was spelled the same way) as part of a fashion judging committee (it was their '96 best/worst dressed issue). I got my hands on the mag long after Sept. '96 when it came out originally, but even then, when the name Derek Bell came to mind, I always though of the racing driver first. |

What was it that Jackie Stewart said (no, not about a melting chocolate bar)? Something along the lines of the skills not diminishing, but that the desire in both body and mind falling to the point that you cannot/will not give it your all every day.
Maybe a future G56 project can focus on making a car that caters to the needs of geriatric drivers. |

Sounds like a good plan for Toyota if/when they step out of P1.

It was little bit different for Mansell, you know in privateer P1 losing to some P2s. You may always hide behind the car there, and certainly back then when privateer battle was fierce and P2s not yet dumbed down. He also had no proper experience, his night qualifying comments in particular actually were charming
If Bell now driving factory P1 was slower than say Kolles it would look horrendous |

Porsche fueling advantage (possibly) penalized...
http://www.dailysportscar.com/2015/1...advantage.html People moan that in F1 they always early on block creative loophole inventions in regulatory changes, yet it's very much started to happen here as well in last few years Last edited by Deleted; 21 Dec 2015 at 09:42. |

Yes I agree...although I'm still having some difficulty with the articles tone and conclusions. All I read is that there are theories. No conclusive proof, yet a certainty that the rules are aimed at Porsche.
Note: I'm not saying that they are not. What I'm saying is that we don't know. We may suspect (and thus the tone of the article should be somewhat different) , but we don't know for sure. |

I don't understand the excitement about it (i.e., why there has to be an article about it) given that this is no news at all? This was established pre-fuji.
MyNameIsNigel on 10/10s, Oct 7th Additionally, already with said rule addition in place, at least during the last race Porsche did not have a refueling advantage over Audi anymore (don't remember Fuji off the top of my head, but IIRC they still had it there). So the whole article is either two months and two weeks late, or ... |

Has there been word/concencus on whether the 919s will have special one off liveries at LM again now that the third car has been axed, or will they revert just to the bland standard ones like all the rest?

I have heard nothing on this so far, and I expect we wont hear anything until much closer to the actual race.
