Nah don't think so. He's literally just set up a website with the intention of streaming old sportscar races and stuff, so I think that may be involved

That was the intention, to have a streaming session of a load of old races. Doesn't mean it can't serve a dual purpose though...

On topic: I can't see how they're going to link payment from App to the PC. There's nowhere to input a code in the app from what I can see, and I doubt it's linked to the card you use. Email address is a possibility. The thing with this is, one person could buy and send their mate the code or whatever and then they could effectively watch for free. There also has to be a purchasing online option because not everyone will be able to get the app, so the system would have to work both ways, so people could just share codes and everyone would watch on PC's. uggh.
There's an announcement at 18:30 tomorrow but they really should have sorted this out yesterday when someone found the prices and posted it on twitter. There's mass confusion and it really isn't good for the sport.

No, the season passes are in-app purchases and, by their nature, only work within the specific app, on a specific platform, with a specific account.

As to the app, you could just get everyone to log into the Google account on their phones and use it unless it's IP restricted. One of the benefits of BT Sport may I add

We weren't sharing the stream link or anything if that's what you think. If the stream does go up then I'm sure someone will make it available.

Even if we end up having to pay for it, 20 euros isn't that much for a full season. However, I hope it isn't an incentive for other series to do the same. Didn't catch the BES race at Monza... was that free? Geo-blocked?

There are ways of getting around this stuff (pirated video streams, Tor, etc) but quite honestly it's not worth my time! I hope that now the livestream page is showing a 404 error that they've rushed to take the fee out of the stream and cocked something up.

I hope for the best. Unfortunately I have to get up at about 5:30 in the morning to catch the race and given I'm fighting a horrible cold, the stream better go off without a hitch! *raises pitchfork threateningly*

Why not monetise the free stream by putting in adverts every 30 minutes or so? You'd draw new fans with word out there's a free stream, serious fans with a distaste for adverts and a love of stats, could avail of a more complex service. Either way you'd get cash in.

Even 15 minutes would be adequate. Silly and rude move this, to bang on a paywall and to abruptly shut out people just before the race without any announcement bar a cryptic press release right on the eve of the race that creates more confusion than clarity. What a shambles!

It's not a "super secret page" and the Pms sent and received had nothing to do with said stream. No one posted links because as of yet it isn't really relevant. I even said that I'd post a link if he went ahead with his plans.

Also of note from the app description is a feature called "the marshaling system". This let's you see the cars position on track. That's pretty cool.
The app description pretty much gives away what premium is and the levels of in depth information we'll get through live timing etc.

Yes, but is this in addition to or replacing the previously available live FREE stream for our PCs?

The fact it was previously free should not be a factor. If the service is worth £16 then people should have no qualms paying that. If it's a choice between that or no stream then I know what is prefer.

Not the question I asked - I can see that this premium service is very nice and probably worth some money but the question I asked is "is it in addition to or replacing the previously free stream".
