2nd weekend in October - Oct 5-8 (V8SCA still haven't been able to 'retrieve' the long weekend date from ARDC).

They wouldn't want to do it this year as the AFL Grand Final will also be on the Long Weekend.

peckstar has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
my tip is never take a girl on a date to bathurst.

A. because taking girls to bathurst is against the rules and always end in separation eventally.
B. because they will get all cranky when some moron at the top of the mountain abuses her

I took my wife to Bathurst in 1998.

And we're still married...

I'll never forget that day. I told her it was going to be hot. "Wear a big hat" I said, not expecting a dashing pink number with a rose on the front...

Best call of the day from some smashed goose up at McPhillamy "What do you think it is darling? Fashions on the Field???"

Maybe she should go again. A Ford hasn't won since.........

Same weekend as the World Touring Cars from Valencia I believe. So I guess a few regularinternationals will be missing.

The BTCC doesn't clash, that will free Matt Neal up for a steer at Bathurst

I'm expecting a warning from the mods for saying that

Unfortunately you are right.A lot more guys took girls to Bathurst in the seventies before yob culture took over completely, and in the case of the girls who came with our mob, they were a bit less fussy about the lack of creature comforts at the camp than today's princesses.

Isn't there a major conference of some kind in Sydney on the Octber long weekend this year, ASEAN or similar, which is likely to cause the NRL Grand Final to be moved because the Federal Police and anti-terror legislation will prevent large public gathering (ie major sport) being held in Sydney on the same weekend?

While V8s not being in Sydney means that Bathurst is free from this exemption, Channel Ten will have a lot of their specialist sportscasting equipment and people tied up with the telecast of the AFL Grand Final and are likely to tell VESA that moving Bathurst back to the long weekend will be too difficult for them technically, as well as losing Friday and Saturday timeslots to the AFL as well.

That will only effect Alain Menu. All the others run in other series. Even then - aren't Dae... Chevrolet doing a massive rethink & restructure of their spectacularly unsuccesful Lacetti campaign?

It affects Yvan Muller as well, and Andy Priaulx.

Chevrolet showed off the 2006 spec Lacetti the other week and re-confirmed Menu, Nicola Larini and Rob Huff as the drivers again for the 2006 WTCC, so any rethinking of the campaign would likely be done at the end of this season, though the car was improving by the end of the year (the FIA helped them out abit though), Menu scoring a podium (he was later stripped of it though because......the car had less than 3 litres in the petrol tank at post-race scruiteneering).

Priaulx's only done trhe race twice and didn't come last year. Formula One testing has a little more tantilised these days than V8Supercar. Don't blame him.

Didn't know Muller had joined WTCC. Bad enough in WTCC with Dirk Muller and Jorg Muller but now Yvan as well? Well if he's joined WTCC its because he's left BTCC, and therefore Triple 8, so he wouldn't have been coming anyway.
