Arrows driver Bernoldi has so far completed a total of 5 laps in a car in which Verstappen finished both races. In recent tests in Barcelona, Arrows test driver Herbert showed he was faster than Bernoldi. Do you think Bernoldi will be replaced by Herbert some time during this season?

No. Red Bull is paying for Bernoldi to race. They already have had it out with Sauber after they chose Raikonnen over Bernoldi. Arrows is not in a good position financially to put Herbert in the car regardless of whether he is faster or not. Unfortunately it seems the people with the money can't recognize a quick driver when they trip over one and we end up watching bernoldi's and mazzacane's imitate race drivers.

Bernoldi has done a pretty good job of imitating Andrea De Cesaris so far

I can't say I really remember any of de Cesaris' results... but I guess that explains a lot

He became quite famous for crashing his car very often and gained the nickname Andrea De Crasharis.
I think he holds the record for the most GP retirements. |

So at this point we do not even know which one of them is the best in doing Herbert's job. So what's your point? Don K |

Even thought I didn't want to get into this, I'd still like to show you that I have done my homework before I posted this question
The best way to compare the Arrows A22 (2001) to the A21 (2000) is by comparing the times set in the malaysian qualifying session. The tyres used by bridgestone this year were introduced before the malaysian GP last year, so the tyres could not influence the times. The circumstances on the track were the same, and Verstappen drove for Arrows in both Malaysian Grand Prix'. His Qualifying time in 2000 was 1'39"489, his time in 2001 was 1:38.509. So it seems the A22 is almost a second a lap faster than the A21. The Arrows press release also showed that Bernoldi was doing setup testing, in which he is supposed to set the fasted time he could, and Herbert was "ironing out some minor electrical glitches" Still Herbert managed to set a faster time solving problems in the slower A21 than Bernoldi did testing setups the faster A22. So if we should conclude anything from this test session, it would be that Herbert is a faster driver than Bernoldi. But I don't think we really need to compare the times of 1 testing day in Barcelona to come to the conclusion that Herbert would get better results, should he be driving races for Arrows... Of course he should be racing for arrows! Unfortunately in Modern F1 the best don't always get the job. If anything DeLa Rosa should still be in that seat. I don't have anything personal against Bernoldi, it's just that he didn't earn that seat on pace alone; the inference there is that he is not slow but he's definetly not the quickest most capable driver available.

The test session you're talking about must have been
Barcelona, 21th of march. In every day of testing until that date, the A21 has been faster than the A22. On 5 of those days, the difference was more than 1 second. On the other day, the difference was still 3 tenth of a second. So actually Herberts result on that day (less than 3 hunderth of a second faster than the A22) was the worst result to date of the A21 versus the A22. Ok, I think that herbert should be driving for arrows or any other team because he is a good race driver. As for bernoldi, I can´t tell how consistant he can be, I mean it´s been just 2 races there are a lot of GP´s to go. But maybe that sponsorship issue is the main thing for not having Johnny as a permanent driver.

Back to de Cesaris...
he started in 208 races, it is no wonder when he holds the record for the most retirements. 208 races without a victory...wow... |

Don K,
In that 3-day test session in Barcelona, the only time the A21 was the fastest Arrows was the day when Herbert drove it... By the way, if I ever need a lawyer, would you mind if I gave you a call? |
