Greatest Sporting moment.
Ch4 are running a poll on the greatest sporting moments
http://www.channel4.com/greatest/vote.cfm The motor racing options are 36. Villeneuve And Arnoux’s wheel to wheel battle in the French Grand Prix 52. Nigel Mansell's blow out costs him the Formula One Championship 66. Ayrton Senna’s brilliant first lap of the European Grand Prix Fairly good choices, but what do you think should be the moments that represent our sport. Oh and we really should vote! It is difficult to choose between these three. Today I will go with 36,52 and then 66. |

You can also submit a moment that you think should be considered. Thinking caps on.

Not really applicable to this thread, but my fav scene of a "sporting gesture" was when Mansell gave Senna a lift back to the pits at Silverstone 91', it also provided a fantastic image, and one that i have hanging in our lounge (a painting, not photo)

It was a really nice gesture, cus although they were bitter rivals, (watch Barcelona 91' for another CLASSIC image of orgasming proportions) they didn't hate each other like the Senna & Prost rivalry.

Ghinzani - well said about Derek Warwick - Yeah - he should have signed for Williams!!!
I have written a feature on this on this website at... http://www.parcferme.com/Articles/447.html as for memories Villeneuve/Arnoux in 79 is fab. Many Mansell ones - Hungary 89, Imola 90 (360 spin!), Barcelona 91, Mexico 90... could be all night here! |

Personal favourites:
Mansells storming drive at Hungary 1992 to win his first WDC Mika winning in Japan 1998 to win his first WDC Mansell v Senna - Spain 1991 Mansell on the outside of Berger in Mexico 1990 Mika from last to third Austria 1999 Kind of see a theme here???? Last edited by f1manoz; 19 Sep 2001 at 00:33. |

I thought that it might be difficult because I think the theme problem might pop up for a lot of people. It's difficult to choose "a moment" becuase they tend to be based on not only who's people's favorite, but also the events leading up to that moment.
Mika's overtaking move at Spa last year was so good becuase of what happened the lap beore. Berger winning in Germany in 1997 was good because of what happened to him just before and becuase it was his last season. These are of course but two reasons. I'd like to throw in Piquet's move on Senna in Hungary 1986. First corner. Massive opposite lock. Excellent. |

Yeah, i'll second that move Piquet did on Senna at Hungary in 86', totally brill, completly sideways round the outside first corner - magic.

Has anyone got a link to an mpeg for that last one?Sounds great.
Oh one point everyone forgets-Both senna's 1st lap(wasn't it 93?) and shumacher in spain (96)were done ON WET SETTINGS,when allmost everyone else had thier cars setup for a compromise. In neither case were these thier best drives-they just look impressive because of the situation My vote goes to pironi/vileneuve-but on the vidio of it why is murray Walker SO quiet?!Another good one is Monza '71 Last edited by RWC; 19 Sep 2001 at 21:24. |
