To those watching "Formula 1 Decade"...
Do some of you who previously doubted now understand just how fantastic this sport once was? Look at this, a 3-way battle for the lead, between three incredible champions! And this was one of the more boring races during the '93 season!
I do miss it so... |

I loved it, but I'd like to see Speed give it more time so they don't need to cut quite as much out. Great racing though, I wish it could still be like that.

Nice to see JJ Lehto in an F1 car again. Nice track that Kyalami, to bad the commentary is more of a look back rather than the commentary from the '93 season.

Yeah, we should send off some e-mails asking for Murray's commentary!

Dang, that Benneton was an elephant! And to think that all the cars are like that anymore!
Why don't they put all the drivers' faces on the graphics anymore? You don't even get first names anymore. Look at the lack of runoff, especially in the hairpins, of all places. They had Tommy Hilfiger back in '93? Interesting. Some of those hairstyles were downright appalling. I can't tell which one was worse, Prost's white-afro or Schumacher's mullet. Where are the red cars that win every race? |

Fortunate!
It sure is nice to see some racing again!
I think that we are very fortunate to be able to watch some of these old races regardless of the commentary.I would also like to hear Walker's voice during the race, but for me, I'm happy to be able to watch Senna and Prost again, not to mention Alesi,Patrese and D.Hill.I have many of those races on tape, and up here in Canada we always have received the British signal, and therefore have always listened to M.Walker.I like the fact that I can watch the races again with the Speedtv commentators because it gives me a different viewpoint to the races. I'm looking forward to the rest of the season. Tye Last edited by Tye; 12 May 2003 at 07:59. |

you lads are fairly lucky. Soon enough you'll be able to see the arrival of Eddie Irvine at Suzuka.
What a bloody hero. Senna: "you were hitting me and I was leading" Eddie: "did i touch you, did I touch you once?" Senna: "no, but it was close" Eddie: "a miss is as good as a mile" then bang! ah, the good ole days when men were men. We won't see the likes of those two again. |

It was bit to broken up for me to fully take it in but I liked it. The look on Schus face was priceless; "Eh, ah screw it."

I think this is a great idea by Speed TV, even if it is condensed. I don't mind the retrospective commentary, as it puts the 93 season into context. Those cars were beauties, with the exception of the Benneton. I also liked the idea that there was such an array of powerplants from V8's to V12's. The spirit of pioneer engineering was still alive.
My wife tolerates me watching every race AND the replays, but she couldn't believe I was actually watching a race from '93. I'm glad you all understand! |

it was a grand thing to watch eh- toook m back, now what was it that was causing all that racing? slicks? less aero dependance? If bernie could se that and make the rules accomodate better. I forgot about Prost, his last few years got so lackluster, a 4 time champ he should have gone out on top. TGF's mullet ha ha ha

They had a lot of aero dependance, but look how big those rear wings are! I'd wager they shifted a lot of the turbulence up and over the pursuing car. And note how close to the pavement the cars are! That would also make them less vulnerable to turbulence (with the front wing and underbody).
The slicks were certainly more forgiving than today's tires, which are either perfect or garbage. And, of course, Senna managed to put his McLaren ahead of two much faster cars... Had he not been blocking the track, Prost would have streaked off into the distance very quickly, with Schumacher following behind by quite a bit. These three really managed to make their teammates look ordinary all year, though. Less testing and sophistication in those days meant setups weren't nearly so precise as they are now, and a great driver could really shine through. But y'know what I blame more than anything else? The refuelling ban. No elaborate pit strategies. A blindingly fast 4-tire change, and that's it. If you were going to overtake anyone, you _had_ to do it on the track! And there are three things from that era I just miss because they were so cool! Titanium skid plates, pit wearing regular clothes, and no pit lane speed limits! I'm pretty stoked this is on, I started watching F1 at the end of that year, so never really saw Senna or Prost race. The lack of Murray is a shame, as are the frequent advert breaks, but you can't have everything... |

When Piquet's car went off and they showed it from the rear, did anyone else think it looked like it had two different size tires on the back? It almost looked like a front on the rear. It could have been an illusion caused by the dirt on the tire but it looked odd.

Uhm... Piquet wasn't in that race. He retired after the '91 season.
Actually, he did try to qualify for the Indy 500 in '92, but he crashed in practice, broke his legs, and said the hell with it. |

I have to say I am really looking forward to watching Hakkinen's debut with Mclaren. Too bad we don't get qualies as well. I imagine I want too much. Greedy Bugger!

Wasn't it hysterical to see Senna and Prost sitting side by side in the press conference pretending that the chair next to them was empty? And being a Prost girl to the bone, I also enjoyed the sour look on Senna's face. How nice to see happy drivers on the podium instead of the same bored Ferrari drivers boring the fans and press yet again.
Nice to see that the cars had drivers in them, that the drivers had actual faces, and that more than one driver had a chance to win a race and everyone knew it. And if you think TGF's haircut was funny, you should have seen the shoes he wore off track. Does the phrase "just fell off the turnip truck" ring any bells? And on a weekend when we saw Alessandro Zanardi circle the German Oval in triumph after a 20 month miracle, wasn't it fun to see him climbing out of the Lotus after seeing an infant Damon Hill into the dirt before him? Look down that grid and count the number of champions. Now look down the 2003 grid and remember that Senna once said "Every year there is a winner. Not every year there is a champion." |

Amen to that Liz. Except the Prost part.
Well, and the bored Ferrari drivers. One of the main reasons I dislike Schumacher is that he looks as happy after every win as she did after Spa '92, even if he won the race by a minute and a half, and was never once challenged. Senna and Prost always had something going on in their heads after the race. |

Your're right, they both seemed to take most satisfaction out of beating each other on the track. A win's a win to Schu, no matter how he achieved it.

Oh yea you're completely right - if you conveniently forget such polar extremes as declining to stand on the top step on the one hand and breaking down and crying (over Senna's landmark) on the other! How selectively you remember.

Or how about punching the air after Austria before he realised the crowd weren't best pleased, and leaping with joy after every win where his team mate had been forced to follow him home . One example doesn't change anything.
