Lotus Hype

Everywhere I read in reference to F1 on the net, there seems to be a lot of hype regarding the Lotus team. There is much speculation in regards how strong (as in they will be stronger) they will be in the second half of the season. They seem to have many new scheduled developments on the horizon. I have been waiting for a race win for a long time now, but it can't be a slam dunk without good qualifying performances.

Are we going to see status quo when the second half begins or will we see change in the guard amongst the top teams?

I would like to see Lotus come on as a force to be reckoned with, but action speaks louder than words.

They've garnered a lot of praise but I feel they ought to have won at least one by now. And this is no rise to the top like Red Bull; it's a championship-winning team. They need to dictate strategy, not follow. That's how Williams won in Catalunya.

The next two races are critical for Lotus. In theory they should be very strong. They have the f-duct device with two low downforce tracks to come. They have Kimi Raikkonen in their team and Spa is the next race. Overtaking has been their weakness but it is less important at Spa and Monza because it is possible to overtake.

If they don't get at least one win in the next two races their championship challenge is done.

Considering they were Renault, they still have potential to challenge the top ones...

When you compare the driver line up to last year's, I'm not convinced that the car is better than 2011's, relative to the rest of the field. They've achieved impressive tyre wear, but is that because they can't extract enough pace over a single lap? It's great to have a team whose fundamental performance range is different to most of the other frontrunners, because it's produced so much excitement and tension late in races, but I'm not convinced they have the platform of a title challenge this year.

Spot on, mate. Once again, we really just need to merge accounts. It'd be much easier... We'll do shifts or something

But yeh in seriousness, they MUST start dictating the race if they want a win. You can't just react to strategies and be successful. Early bird catches the worm and all that jazz...
