Did the Porsche cup class get a performance break this year? I don't recall them being this far up the field last year.

Looks like Manthey has this one sewn up - Tiemann for the win with the Hybrid good for an overall podium.

No performance break that I know of for the Cup-cars, the 2010 cars aren't even elegible yet!

I am beginning to worry about BMW's chances at the 24...

looks like a good line up.

Am I seeing things or is an M1 set to race in the next round?

Yup, and I think that one already raced last round. Not sure how much M1 there actually is in that car, though, as Gruppe H allows for quite some modifications.

Here's an interview about and some pics of the car: http://translate.google.de/translate...2F&sl=de&tl=en
badly botched up by Google, though.

Oh, and here's the entry list for the big one: http://adac.24h-rennen.de/uploads/me...liste-2010.pdf

Why are there no RSR's in the top teams? They are all using GT3 R's, which I understand why they are using those because it is a new car but wouldn't it be more advantageous to run an RSR? I know it's not at GT2 spec but isn't is more sophisticated aerodynamically? Could someone shed some light please?

You mean a restricted engine, correct? But have they 'restricted' from racing in the 24 hour event?

Yeah, restricted engine. But probably not more so then in other series. It's more about the GT3s becoming really fast, rather than the GT2s being slowed down unreasonably.

As last year in FIA GT2 and GT3, there's not much of a difference between the two classes anymore in terms of lap times, and the RSR is A LOT more expensive to run. "GT3 speed for GT1-money" as Speedweek wrote a few weeks ago...

So, Manthey is running GT3 R's as a cost saving option; smart move if they still get the same performance as running an RSR.

The Audis are falling like flies... lots of punctures in the first few laps.

Farnbacher Ferrari out as well, problems with the gear shifter.

Might be BMW's first win today.

After multiple tire failures all Audi R8s on Dunlop Tires have been withdrawn from today's race... that's all their fast cars, i.e. Phoenix and Abt.

Good thing this happened today and not in the 24hrs!!!

I think they've raced Dunlops since the beginning of the Nordschleife-project, but it might of course be a new tire compound.

Too bad, I would have prefered for that to happen during the 24h race

Looking good for BMW right now, 1st and 3rd.

Red Flag for a burning car. No restart. Mamerow Porsche wins since they had not yet pitted when the red flag came out... tough luck for BMW.

Congrats to Mamerow, successful dress-rehearsal for BMW - Both cars ran without problems and fairly quick.

Next stop is the 24h race in three-week's time!
