Lovely photos there. What was it like at the time?

Did you go to the 1980 On The Streets event yourself? Got any photos or stories from there?

Cant tell you any stories off the top of my head, i struggle to remember what i did last week let alone 30 years ago.I will ask others that i was there with if they can recall any anecdotes.
I did go to another event, again don't know which year but i seem to have only taken sports cars.

That would be the 1986 Birmingham Superprix with the Thundersports taking part on the Saturday of the August Bank Holiday.

The close proximty of the photos would help me a lot to identify the drivers in the Thundersports cars. Keep the photos coming in if you got the energy and time. I appreciate it a lot, so will the forum!

Andy

We were there for the rained off Libre race with the "first two car F5000 team since VDS" (Motoring News moniker not ours!). Looks like I have to get back in the loft to get the entry lists, etc, down again to identify these drivers! Altho' the T530 is obviously Foulston/Brindley!

Thank you for the useful ID of the cars but I want to know specificially who is driving those cars featured in the photos. It is difficult to cross reference with other photos I got of the drivers.

The Rover in the first pic is definitely Andy Rouse's 1984 BTCC car

Mike Wilds is my guess on that one.... back in his F3 and F1 days he always used to wear a yellow and red helmet (as worn by the driver in the pic)

It is Mike Wilds indeed, and there is Ian Flux in the #16 Lola T594C and John Brindley in the #1 Lola T530. But that's all I know.

I thought it would be a good time to revive this thread as this weekend is the 25th anniversary of the first Birmingham Superprix in 1986.

Best part of 300 marshals on track I think we had 20 people on fire tenders 8 or 9 rescue units about 100 in pits paddock and start line plus race control no wonder I was ****** after the event after answering the phone every night for 3 weeks I had the phone on my lap every night I would just keep answering call after call, and sending out the passes but wonderful times the best event I was ever involved with and I am speaking for lots of others as well.

In the past few years, I have always had Martin Hone's email address (from his International Festival Services Ltd company)

I tried to send him an email tonight but it bounced back. After a very quick Google search, I found out that his IFS company has been liquidated/closed down.
recently
So is there any way I can get in touch with Martin Hone?

Thank you

Best ever meeting in world.

It was my second ever meeting, I enjoyed every second, even if it was in the support paddock, the team made me feel very welcome, some of the best times in my marshalling years was spent at the superprix weekends.
Shame we will seen another like it.

Why Birmingham Superprix race could not be run to this day or future and why it ended in the early 90?

The control of the city council changed to a left wing Labour group, who decided, among other reasons, that the event wasn't sufficiently 'ethnically diverse'. There was also the issue that on a balance sheet not all of the economic benefits to the city were seen, so the event made a 'loss' even though it brought many millions of pounds into the city economy, which combined with the face a new act of Parliament was needed for a 3 day event, combined with the cost of circuit and paddock improvements, meant the event was allowed to die.
